Angelina’s POV

He paused. Let that sink in.

“For the next twelve hours, I own you. Your performance. Your success. Your failure. All of it belongs to me.”

His voice was cold now. All the warmth from before completely gone.

“I don’t care about your backgrounds. I don’t care about your previous scos. I don’t care if you’re ranked first or ranked last. Starting now, everyone is equal. Everyone starts at zero.”

He walked along the top of the container. His movements were precise.

“Today you will face three tests. Interrogation resistance. Endurance. Advanced marksmanship. You will complete all three consecutively. The only breaks you get are the transitions between tests.”

Someone in the first line shifted slightly. Caelan’s eyes locked onto them immediately.

“Did I say you could move?”

The candidate froze. “No sir.”

“Then don’t move.”

Caelan continued walking. “These tests are designed to break you. To find our limits and push past them. Many of you will fail. That’s

expected. That’s the point.”

He stopped. Looked directly at all of

“But here’s what I want you to understand. I don’t give participation points. I don’t give points for effort. I only give points for results.”

His voice got harder. “If you complete a test but do it poorly, you get a low score. If you quit partway through, you get zero. If you break the rules, you’re eliminated from the entire selection. Not just this test. The entire selection.”

That got everyone’s attention.

Felix had never said elimination was possible during the final assessment. We all thought the worst that could happen was a low score.

But Caelan was saying we could be kicked out completely.

“Are there any questions?” Caelan asked.

Silence.

“Good. Then let’s begin.”

He jumped down from the container. Landed smoothly. Barely made a sound despite the fifteen-foot drop.

Several candidates’ eyes widened. That kind of landing required serious leg strength and body control.

Caelan walked toward the formation. Felix moved to stand beside him.

They exchanged a look. Felix nodded slightly. Then stepped back.

This was Caelan’s show now. Felix was just observing.

Caelan turned toward the container maze. “First test: advanced marksmanship under combat conditions.”

He gestured toward a group of people standing near the entrance to the maze.

Ten young men walked forward. All of them wearing black tactical gear. Mving in perfect formation.

They lined up in front of the candidates. Stood at attention. These weren’t ordinary soldiers. These were Caelan’s people. Evergreen Pack

warriors.

Each one stood perfectly straight. Eyes sharp and alert. Bodies radiating controlled power.

The human candidates probably thought they were military contractors. Maybe special forces.

I watched several werewolf candidates in the first line tense up. Their instincts recognized what these ten men were.

Caelan walked along the line of warriors. “These men will be your targets for the marksmanship test.”

Someone in the crowd spoke up. “Sir, are we using paintball rounds?”

“No.” Caelan’s voice was flat. “Live ammunition.”

The entire training area went silent.

Then someone else spoke. Their voice was uncertain. “Wait, LIVE rounds? What if someone actually gets killed?”

Caelan looked at the person who asked. “That won’t happen.”

The protests started immediately.

“This is insane! We can’t use live rounds on moving targets!”

“What about liability? Safety protocols?”

“Sir, this violates every training regulation I know!”

“People could die!”

Caelan didn’t raise his voice. Didn’t react to the shouting. Just stood there waiting for everyone to finish.

When the noise died down, he spoke. “These are the parameters. Accept them or forfeit.”

His voice was calm. ‘You have sixty seconds to decide. Anyone who wants to quit can leave now. No penalty to your previous scores. You simply

won’t receive points for this assessment.”

Nobody moved.

I watched Caelan’s warriors. They showed no fear. No concern. Just stood there relaxed and ready.

Because they were Evergreen Pack’s elite. If they couldn’t dodge bullets, they had no business being in Caelan’s pack.

There was no “what if” in Caelan’s world. You either performed or you failed.

The sixty seconds passed.

“Good,” Caelan said. “Since everyone is staying, let me explain the course.

He walked toward the container maze entrance. We all followed. Stayed in formation.

The maze was massive. Shipping containers stacked and arranged to create a complex pathway. Multiple levels. Narrow passages. Blind corners.

“You will start here at Point A.” Caelan pointed to a marked position on the ground. “Your objective is to reach Point B on the other side of the

maze.”

He gestured across the container field. I could barely see the other end from here.

“The ten warriors will be positioned throughout the maze. On top of containers. Behind barriers. Anywhere they choose.”

One of the warriors stepped forward. “Sir, will we be armed?”

“No. You’ll be unarmed. But you can use evasive maneuvers. Movement. Cover. Whatever you need to avoid being hit.”

The warrior nodded. Stepped back into line.

Caelan turned to face us. “Here’s the scoring system.”

He held up one finger. “A graze or minor hit: two points.”

Second finger. “A solid hit to a non-vital area: five points.”

Third finger. “A kill shot to a vital area: ten points.”

He lowered his hand. “Maximum possible score is twenty points. You can t two warriors with kill shots. Or four warriors with solid hits. Or any combination that totals twenty.”

“Time limit is five minutes,” he continued. “If you exceed that, mission fail. You get whatever points you accumulated before time ran out.”

Someone raised their hand. “Sir, how do we know if we hit them? They’re moving targets.”

“The warriors wear sensor equipment under their tactical gear. Impact sensors. They’ll register every hit and classify it automatically.”

Caelan pulled out a tablet. Showed us the screen. It displayed a grid with en names. Each name had a status indicator.
