Angelina’s POV

I walked back down the concrete hallway toward my cell. Through the small windows in each door, I could see faces. Eyes watching me pass.

Someone gasped. A female voice from cell three. “Jesus, Sterling. What did they do to you?”

“Look at her neck,” another voice said. Male. From across the hallway. ‘Is that… blood?”

“No, those are pressure bruises,” someone else answered. “They used some kind of advanced interrogation technique on her.”

I reached my cell. The guard unlocked it. I walked inside.

The door closed behind me with a heavy clang.

I sat down on the concrete floor. Leaned back against the wall. Closed my eyes.

“Sterling?” Kenneth’s voice came from somewhere to my left. His cell was few doors down. “Sterling, can you hear me?”

I didn’t answer.

“She got it worse than me,” Kenneth said. His voice was shaking. “Way worse. At least they just waterboarded me.”

Footsteps in the hallway. The guards were taking another candidate for interrogation.

A woman started screaming. “No! Please! I saw what you did to Sterling! Please don’t take me there!”

Her voice faded as they dragged her away.

I heard more candidates being taken. More screaming. More begging. I dont know how much time passed. Could have been two hours. Could

have been four.

Then I heard it. Multiple footsteps. I stood up. Walked to my cell window. Warriors were filing into the hallway. Dozens of them. They lined up along both sides in perfect formation.

A man walked to the center of the hallway. I recognized him. One of the ten warriors from the shooting test.

He pulled off his ski mask. Held up a megaphone.

*Attention all candidates. The interrogation resistance assessment is now complete.”

The hallway exploded.

“WHAT?!”

“This was a TEST?!

“You’ve got to be kidding me! That was actual torture!”

“This is illegal! We could sue for this!”

Saffron’s voice cut through the noise. Shrill. Hysterical. I want to file a formal complaint! This violated every protocol!!

The warrior with the megaphone didn’t react. Just waited for the shouting to die down..

When it finally got quiet enough, he continued.

“Your performance during interrogation has been recorded and evaluated. Scores will be posted in thirty minutes at the main assembly area.

More angry shouts. He raised the megaphone again.

“You have fifteen minutes to clean up. Medical personnel are standing by for anyone who needs assistance.”

He lowered the megaphone slightly. “Transportation back to the compound leaves in twenty minutes. Anyone who misses the transport forfeits

their candidacy.”

The warriors began unlocking cell doors. One by one. Systematic.

My door opened. I walked out.

The hallway was chaos. Candidates stumbling out of their cells. Some were crying. Others looked angry. A few just looked broken.

Kenneth emerged from his cell. He took two steps and his legs gave out. Sid down the wall until he was sitting on the floor.

“I broke in five minutes,” he said to no one in particular. “Five minutes. I’m done.”

Michael Anderson walked past him. His face was grim. “They should’ve warned us! How were we supposed to prepare for this?”

Another candidate shook his head. “Actually, this makes sense. Real interrogations don’t come with warnings.”

I started walking toward the exit. Followed the flow of people. The warriors escorted us through corridors. Up stairs. Finally outside.

The fresh air hit my face. It was late afternoon. The sun was setting. Casting long shadows across the ground.

We emerged onto a large concrete clearing. Empty except for several military transport trucks parked at the far end.

The sky was orange and red. Like blood spreading across the horizon.

More candidates filed out behind me. The clearing filled up quickly.

People were talking. Low voices. Angry, Confused. Exhausted.

Saffron was still complaining. “This is unacceptable! When I file my report heads are going to roll!”

Vanessa stood next to her. “Saffron, maybe we should just focus on the net test.”

“The next test? Are you insane? I’m not doing another test! I’m done with this!”

I found a spot away from the main crowd. Stood there. Waited.

Chapter 155*

The sun kept sinking. The shadows grew longer.

Then I saw Felix. He walked into the clearing from the main facility building. His expression was carefully neutral.

Everyone turned to look at him.

Felix stopped in the center of the clearing. Looked at all of us.

I know today was difficult,” he said. His voice carried across the space. I now many of you are angry. Confused. Feeling betrayed.”

Someone shouted. “You think?!”

Felix didn’t react. “This assessment was designed to push you beyond your normal limits. To see how you respond under extreme psychological

pressure.”

“It was torture!” Saffron yelled. “Actual torture!”

“It was a simulation, Felix said. His tone was firm. “No one was actually harmed. The techniques used were carefully controlled. Medical

personnel were monitoring everyone throughout.”

“That doesn’t make it okay!”

Felix looked at her. “This is what you signed up for. Elite military operations. Black ops missions. You think the enemy is going to play fair?

You think they’ll give you warnings?”

The clearing went quiet.

“Your scores won’t be posted tonight,” Felix continued. “I don’t want today’s results affecting your mental state before tomorrow’s assessment.”

He paused. Let that sink in.

“Tomorrow is the final test. The last opportunity to prove yourselves. And it’s the most important one.”

I felt my attention sharpen. This was it.

I remembered Caelan mentioning this earlier. Back in the interrogation room, he’d said something about tomorrow.

He d already called my mom. Told Grace I’d need to miss school for one more day.

“The final assessment carries additional points, Felix said. “And there’s no upper limit. Exceptional performance can significantly boost your

overall ranking.

He looked around at everyone. “Tonight, you go back to your barracks. Rest Recover. Tomorrow morning, we leave at zero-six-hundred for the

final location.”

“Where are we going?” someone asked.
