127.Chapter 127
Alaric, completely unfazed, said, “Or we could just stay and have dinner with Grandpa.”
“Shut up! He’s my grandpa!” Ophelia snapped, feeling like she was about to lose it. This guy was seriously impossible to deal with.
“He’ll be my grandpa sooner or later. I’m just getting used to the title ahead of time,” Alaric said, his eyes full of determination. He was never letting this girl go.
Ophelia rolled her eyes and snorted, raining on his parade. “Well, you’d have to change your last name to Rowle first.”
Alaric couldn’t help but laugh. ‘Man, this girl’s got a mouth on her. She’s impossible to argue with,’ he thought.
‘Wait, is he actually laughing right now?’ Ophelia thought, a wave of unease washing over her.
Red flags were popping up all over her mind. ‘Was he seriously still laughing?’
She narrowed her eyes at Alaric, suspicion flaring. Her gut screamed that he was definitely plotting something.
But just when she thought she had him figured out, Alaric wiped the smile off his face and said, all cool and unbothered, ” Ophelia, I’m hungry. Let’s go.”
‘Is he seriously not getting out of the car? Is he just going to cling to me like a leech?’ Ophelia thought, exasperated.
She rubbed her aching temples, took a deep breath to steady herself, and turned the key to start the car.
‘If he won’t get out, that’s on him. No food for him tonight, just a nice helping of cold wind, she thought.
She floored it, and the car shot out of Rowle Manor like an arrow from a bow.
Alaric was ready for it. A faint smile tugged at his lips as his hand instinctively grabbed the grab handle.
The car headed for the main road, weaving through traffic with effortless skill.
The night wind rushed in through the windows, howling in their ears.
Ophelia acted like she didn’t even notice, and Alaric couldn’t care less. His eyes never left her.
Her eyes sparkled, and she looked so cool and confident that he just couldn’t look away. It was like she had some kind of magic, making him want to get closer to her.
Ophelia had been pretty ticked off at first, but as the car sped along, her mood gradually calmed down. Even all that earlier gloom just faded into nothing.
She shot Alaric a quick side-eye and gave him an internal eye roll. ‘Forget it, he’s not worth the hassle, she thought.
After driving around for a bit, Ophelia just turned the car and headed straight home.
When the car stopped, Ophelia gave Alaric a cool, indifferent look. “Mr. Caldwell, I’m home. Feel free to leave whenever you want.”
“You’re just going to leave me here?” Alaric said, not angry at all. He just smiled, like he’d expected this.
‘Seriously, when this girl is calm and collected, she can be ice cold, he thought.
Ophelia raised an eyebrow, completely unfazed. “I’m sure your driver will be here soon. Just wait here for a bit, Mr. Caldwell.”
After saying that, she walked straight into the door of the house.
