Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 128

128.Chapter 128

The Rowle family looked surprised to see Alaric drop by unannounced, but they quickly welcomed him. “Alaric, come in and have a seat.”

“Hey, you,” Ophelia started, but the moment she felt her family’s eyes on her, she shut her mouth, feeling totally awkward.

“Ophelia, what’s this about? You two came back together?” someone in the family asked, curiosity written all over their face.

Ophelia and Alaric stood side by side, both feeling the weight of her family’s questioning looks.

The air was thick with awkwardness. Before Ophelia could say anything, Alaric cut in smoothly, “Uncle, Aunt, Ophelia invited me over.”

“Oh, I see,” Victoria said with a warm smile. “You haven’t had dinner yet, right? We were just about to have dinner ourselves. Why don’t you join us?”

“Of course,” Alaric replied cheerfully, not missing a beat. “Ophelia invited me over for dinner.”

Ophelia felt a headache coming on. ‘Honestly, this guy just makes himself right at home like he’s one of us, she thought. Zoe watched the two walk in side by side, and jealousy flared up, clouding her judgment.

“Ophelia, you rushed out of school right after class and skipped the pre-competition training. So you were off to see Alaric, huh?” Zoe said, her words sounding innocent but practically oozing with sourness and spite.

Ophelia narrowed her eyes, instantly catching all the shade in Zoe’s comment. ‘She’s trying to paint me as a bad sister, a slacker, and make it look like I’m tangled up with Alaric. Zoe’s claws are really out today, she thought.

Ophelia curled her lips into a mocking smile, feigning surprise. “Oh, there was pre-competition training at school? I had no idea.”

“Of course there was! Everyone who made it past the prelims had to go,” Zoe said, nodding hard, her voice full of smugness. ‘Let’s see you talk your way out of this one, she thought.

“I see,” Ophelia nodded, but when she looked up, her eyes flashed cold. “So when exactly did you get the notice, and how come I never got one?”

Zoe insisted there was training, so it clearly wasn’t a lie. But Ophelia never got the message. ‘Was it an honest mistake, or did someone deliberately leave me out?’ she wondered.

Meeting Ophelia’s icy stare, Zoe faltered, her gaze flickering away, unable to meet her eyes. Ophelia hadn’t been in class when the notice came, and Zoe had said she’d pass it on,but she never bothered

Back then, Zoe just wanted Ophelia to get on the teacher’s bad side. She never expected Ophelia was actually off meeting Alaric.

If she’d known that, she would’ve pulled out all the stops to keep Ophelia from leaving school.

Now, she was so full of regret she could practically choke on it. If only she could turn back time.

Seeing Zoe’s guilty and frustrated face, Ophelia’s eyes flashed with realization. ‘So that’s what happened, she thought. Ophelia let out a sarcastic laugh, arching an eyebrow and giving Zoe a pointed look. “Cat got your tongue, Zoe? Or did you just forget when you got the notice?”

“Oh, no, that’s not it,” Zoe stammered, shaking her head nervously. “It was right after school. Maybe you left too quickly and missed it.”

“Sure, that must be it,” Ophelia nodded, her tone light and a little dismissive. “If I’d gotten the notice, I would’ve been there for sure.”

Zoe snuck a glance at Ophelia, trying to figure out what she was really getting at.

Was she really just regretting missing the training, or was there something more beneath the surface?

Victoria hadn’t expected Ophelia to miss the training either, and she couldn’t help but worry. “Can you ask the teacher to give you some extra help?”

She was really happy that both Ophelia and Zoe made it past the prelims, but if missing the training ended up hurting Ophelia’s results, she’d feel really bad for her.

“Don’t worry, Mom. I’ll just ask the teacher for help when the next training session comes up,” Ophelia reassured her, not wanting Victoria to stress.
