Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 168

168 Chapter 168

168.Chapter 168

‘Where could he even go after leaving Dunhollow? Could a guy who’s been pampered his whole life really just drop everything and start from scratch after losing it all?’ Ophelia wondered.

“That’s why I think he’s acting weird,” Ella said with a shrug, like she was just making small talk.

Ophelia’s gaze dimmed for a moment as she sighed. “Forget about him. The Vossen Group and the Vossen family, they’re not my concern anymore.”

“Alright,” Ella replied. She’d just brought it up on a whim, really.

As they talked, the two of them walked out of the United Exhibition Center.

“Boss, it’s getting late. Let’s grab dinner before heading home,” Ella suggested. Ophelia glanced at the time. Her family would have already finished dinner by now. “Alright,” Ophelia said, smiling at Ella. “What do you want to eat? You pick.”

“Boss, you’re awesome!” Ella said with a cheeky grin. “How about fusion cuisine tonight?”

“Sure, it’s been ages since we went for fusion cuisine,” Ophelia smiled, happy to agree.

The two of them flagged down a cab and hopped in, not noticing someone lurking in the shadows, eyes locked on them.

By the time Ophelia got home, it was already late. Her family had already turned in for the night.

The living room lights were still on, and someone was still up, tidying up.

When Chloe saw Ophelia come in, she smiled and greeted her. “Ophelia, you’re back.”

“Chloe, you’re still up?” Ophelia said, giving her a once-over. She couldn’t shake the feeling that Chloe was acting a little off. “Yes, Mrs. Rowle was worried about you, so she asked me to wait up. If you hadn’t come back by now, I might have called you,” Chloe explained, nodding slightly.

Ophelia’s eyes narrowed for a moment, her gaze growing darker.

‘I already called Mom to let her know I’d be late. Why would she go out of her way to have someone wait up for me?’ Ophelia wondered, a flicker of suspicion crossing her mind.

“Mm-hmm,” Ophelia answered quietly, her face unreadable as she gave a small nod.

“Ophelia, I made you some warm milk. It should help you sleep,” Chloe said, offering her the glass.

“No, really, I’m stuffed, I just ate, so I can’t drink any more milk,” Ophelia declined, heading toward the elevator. “It’s late, Chloe. You should get some rest, too.”

“Wait, hold on,” Chloe blurted out, her tone a bit too urgent. Realizing she was coming on strong, she quickly softened her voice. “Ophelia, I mean, since I’ve already warmed it up for you, maybe you could just have a little?”

As she spoke, Chloe kept sneaking glances upstairs, looking nervous.

Seeing Chloe act so shifty, Ophelia smirked inwardly, finding it all rather amusing.

‘No wonder Chloe’s still downstairs and being so overly friendly. She’s obviously trying to stall me. So, what’s going on upstairs?’ Ophelia thought, her suspicion growing.

‘The only person who could make Chloe act like this is Zoe. So, what is Zoe scheming upstairs?’ Ophelia wondered. ‘Fine, I’ll just sit back and see what game they’re playing, Ophelia thought, her eyes glinting with amusement. “Alright, Ophelia said after a moment, then sat down on the couch.

Chloe let out a quiet sigh of relief and set the milk down on the coffee table.

“Chloe, how’s your distant nephew doing these days?” Ophelia asked, her tone casual, like she was just making small talk. “Uh…” Chloe’s expression stiffened for a moment before she forced a smile. “It’s been ages since we last talked, but I suppose he’s doing alright.”

Ophelia nodded, asking curiously, “He’s studying chemistry, right?”

“Yeah,” Chloe said, her expression shifting slightly as she hesitated. “Maybe? I’m not really sure.”

“I’ve studied a bit myself, so I know a thing or t Successfully unlocked!d and intimidating, making Chloe feel a prickle
