Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 18

**Paths Lead To Purpose — Kevin Masters**
**Chapter 18**

Ophelia had come across them in her readings. Both Miles and Dylan were still immersed in their studies at Dunhollow University; one was pursuing a Ph.D., while the other was in his final year as an undergraduate.

Their talents were nothing short of remarkable. Miles had established his own research institute, a testament to his brilliance, while Dylan dazzled audiences as a musician, already embarking on tours even before the ink had dried on his graduation diploma.

“I think I should keep my distance from those two,” Ophelia remarked playfully, a teasing smile dancing on her lips. “Otherwise, I might just become their next meal, gobbled up by those fangirls.”

Owen raised an eyebrow, blinking in surprise. “Isn’t that a good thing, though? Zoe seems to bask in the attention at school because of Miles and Dylan’s popularity with the girls. She even gets gifts from them just to win her favor.”

Owen couldn’t help but ponder, *What sets Ophelia apart from Zoe? She appears utterly indifferent to the prospect of being in the spotlight.*

“I’m not fond of it,” Ophelia replied, her smile warm yet firm. “If I desire something, I’ll acquire it myself.” With a playful ruffle of Owen’s hair, she added, “I don’t need anyone’s approval or gifts to validate me.”

Admiration flickered in Owen’s eyes, brightening his expression. “Ophelia, you truly are a force to be reckoned with. Your perspective is incredibly inspiring.”

Ophelia chuckled softly, shaking her head. “Oh, stop with the flattery. Now, let’s see that software you’ve been tinkering with. I’m curious to know if there’s any room for improvement.”

“Absolutely!” he replied eagerly, his face lighting up with enthusiasm.

Together, they stepped into the room, their laughter echoing off the walls, filling the space with warmth and joy. Having a younger brother had undeniably added a vibrant layer to Ophelia’s life, turning mundane moments into cherished memories.

Her words dripped with scorn, and she could almost hear Abigail’s blood boiling on the other end of the line.

“Don’t you dare get sarcastic with me,” Abigail snapped, her frustration palpable. “Don’t think I’m oblivious. I know you’ve gotten cozy with Mr. Caldwell and orchestrated Aaron’s expulsion from Dunhollow Hospital. The whole charade of treating his grandpa was your little setup. How on earth do you think you compare to Aaron?”

Abigail’s disbelief was evident; she refused to accept that Ophelia had performed surgery on Zachary or that she possessed any medical credentials. After all, the opportunity to pursue medicine had been snatched away from Ophelia and handed to Abigail’s eldest son.

Listening to the venomous accusations, Ophelia felt no need to defend herself. Instead, she simply stated, “Yes, that was me. And?

“Aaron took my place in medical school, but let’s be honest—he lacks the skill. He can’t even perform a surgery. That’s not on me; that’s on him.”
