Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 19

**Paths Lead To Purpose — Kevin Masters**

**Chapter 19**

“Admit it, Ophelia! I knew it was you all along. You’re truly a piece of work. Just because Aaron took your place back then, you went and seduced Alaric to get your revenge?”

Abigail’s voice was a tempest of fury, each syllable sharp enough to cut through glass. “Now look where we are—Aaron’s rotting in jail because of your schemes. I’m giving you a warning. You’d better call your man right now and tell him to release Aaron, or I swear I’ll make sure your entire family is run out of Dunhollow.”

Her threats hung in the air like a storm cloud, dark and foreboding. “I’ll have those janitor parents of yours bowing before me, begging for mercy,” she continued, her tone dripping with malice.

But Ophelia, unfazed, let out a languid yawn, as if she were merely discussing the weather. “Oh my, how terrifying, Mrs. Vossen. If you’re truly that powerful, why waste your breath on me? Why not march right over to the station and spring Aaron yourself? I hear jail food isn’t exactly five-star cuisine, you know.”

“Ophelia—” Abigail’s voice trembled, a mix of rage and desperation. Her neck was practically throbbing with the effort of containing her fury.

Earlier that morning, she had gone to see her son, but the authorities had denied her entry. They were preparing to file charges, and her heart sank with the weight of her helplessness. After some digging, she discovered the Caldwell family was one of the most influential in Dunhollow—untouchable, like a fortress surrounded by impenetrable walls.

With no way to confront them directly, she had turned her ire towards Ophelia, hoping to rattle her. But the girl was as composed as ever, showing no signs of fear.

“Do you honestly believe that just because you’ve latched onto the Caldwell family, I can’t touch you? You’re nothing but a toy to them. Once they’ve had their fun, they’ll toss you aside like yesterday’s trash,” Abigail snapped, her voice a venomous hiss.

“Oh, Mrs. Vossen, how sweet of you to concern yourself with my well-being,” Ophelia replied in a syrupy tone, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “Even if I do get thrown away later, that’s a problem for another day. But listen closely: if you can’t get Aaron out before the indictment, his precious record will be forever marred.”

Abigail’s heart raced at the implication. She understood the gravity of the situation all too well. The entire night had been spent frantically pulling strings, but no one dared to stand against the Caldwell family.

Sensing the weight of Abigail’s despair, Ophelia chuckled lightly, a sound like tinkling bells. “Well, it’s not as if there are many brave souls willing to challenge the Caldwell family, are there? So, how about this? Why don’t you ask me nicely, Mrs. Vossen? If I’m in a generous mood, I might just put in a good word for Aaron.”

Her voice dripped with feigned sweetness, each word a deliberate provocation. Ophelia could almost envision Abigail’s twisted expression, and the thought brought her a sense of wicked delight.
