188 Chapter 188
188.Chapter 188
Meanwhile, everyone at the scene had just learned from Alaric that Ophelia was actually Rowan Draven. A lot of people were itching to go over and strike up a conversation.
After all, this was Rowan’s first public appearance. For years, everyone had only heard of Maplewood Capital, but no one had ever seen what Rowan really looked like.
Who would’ve thought she’d turn out to be this cool, badass girl?
But as much as they wanted to, with Alaric standing right there, nobody dared to approach.
After all, next to him, all their companies were just small fry.
“Ophelia, mind if I sit here?” Alaric asked, his voice unusually gentle, almost like he was fishing for praise.
Ophelia frowned, lowering her voice in warning. “Don’t call me Ophelia in public. That’s just cringe.”
Alaric gave a sly smile. “I know you don’t want anyone to find out you’re the Rowle family’s golden girl. Chill, I’m close enough. No one else can eavesdrop.”
“That’s exactly why it’s weird. Don’t you think whispering this close looks kinda… suspicious?” Ophelia shot him a glare, clearly annoyed.
Honestly, whispering like this is way more suspicious than just calling me Ms. Draven out loud.
The way they were talking right now, anyone watching would definitely think something was up.
After a brief pause, Alaric said with mock seriousness, “If you don’t like things being ambiguous between us, I could always make our relationship official in front of everyone.”
“What relationship? We don’t have one,” Ophelia blurted out, momentarily stunned. Then she quickly glanced around, worried someone might’ve overheard Alaric.
Seeing her get flustered, Alaric’s lips curled into a sly smile, the amusement in his eyes growing even stronger.
Ophelia’s internal warning sirens blared. She shot him a sharp look. “Zip it. If you start spouting nonsense, don’t blame me for flipping out.”
“I’m just saying, Caldwell Group and Maplewood Capital are about to work together. We’re partners now, so it’s perfectly normal to sit close and discuss business secrets,” Alaric said, all serious. Then he shot Ophelia a teasing look. “So, what exactly was on your mind, Ophelia?”
“I…” Ophelia choked on her words, suddenly realizing he was just messing with her on purpose.
‘Ugh, this guy is infuriating, Ophelia thought, glaring daggers at Alaric and grinding her teeth. She honestly wanted to sink her teeth into him just to get even.
“Mr. Caldwell, don’t you have your own seat? Why don’t you go back to it,” Ophelia said, her expression turning cold as she basically told him to scram.
She really didn’t want him sitting next to her. She was seriously tempted to sock him in the face if he stayed.
“Seriously, Ophelia, where’s your gratitude? I just bailed you out and this is the thanks I get?” Alaric teased, but instead of leaving, he made himself comfortable right beside her.
He couldn’t hide his excitement when he saw her at the summit. There was no way he was passing up a chance to get
closer to her.
“It’s such a rare occasion for you to show up, Ophelia. Of course I’m going to keep you company,” Alaric replied, totally unfazed by her cold shoulder. His eyes danced with mischief, and his voice was so gentle and thoughtful, acting like the most attentive guy in the room.
“No need. Mr. Caldwell, please respect the organizers’ rules,” Ophelia replied, utterly exasperated, firmly shutting him down and making it clear she wanted space.
‘Seriously, this guy is acting all lovesick. Is he just dying for people to get the wrong idea?’ Ophelia thought, rolling her eyes. ‘Does he even realize what kind of event this is? Seriously, does he even care about how this looks? Even if he doesn’t give a damn about his own reputation, can he at least not mess up mine?’ she grumbled inwardly.
“This summit’s basically a networking event, right? I’m riving to have a little exchange with you, Ophelia. Don’t you want to talk business with me?
