189 Chapter 189
189.Chapter 189
‘This guy is always acting up, no matter where he is or who’s watching, Ophelia thought to herself.
Alaric was totally unfazed by her glare, leaning back in his seat with confidence. “If you’re not saying anything, that means you agree.”
Ophelia let out a sigh, knowing that no matter how much she said, he always had something to say back.
“Whatever, since Mr. Caldwell likes this spot so much, he can have it. I’ll go, Ophelia muttered in frustration as she tried to get up. But Alaric caught her arm, giving her a meaningful look. “Where do you think you’re going, Ophelia?”
Seeing Alaric’s playful smirk, Ophelia was just speechless.
‘This is totally a threat!’ she thought.
He was making it clear: wherever she went, he’d be right behind her. People would totally start talking if that happened.
“Nope, not going anywhere,” Ophelia grumbled, shaking off Alaric’s hand and staying put. He’d already made them the center of attention, and folks were still sneaking glances their way. If she switched seats and he followed, the rumors would just get worse.
‘At this rate, people might actually start shipping us or something… Ophelia thought.
“Thanks for giving me this chance to chat, Ophelia,” Alaric said, looking totally pleased with himself, his smirk deepening. Ophelia shot him a death glare, venting all her frustration.
‘Could you just zip it? I seriously can’t deal with you right now, she thought.
Any brownie points he’d earned for helping her earlier vanished in a heartbeat.
“What’s going on over there?” someone whispered.
“Mr. Caldwell just said he wants to work with Maplewood Capital. Looks like they’re hitting it off. Maplewood Capital’s killing it these days. Who wouldn’t want to partner up?” another person replied.
“Seriously! If Mr. Caldwell wasn’t sitting there, I’d have rushed over already, someone else chimed in.
Ophelia’s lips twitched hard. ‘Can you not make it sound so sketchy? What do you mean by “hitting it off”?” she thought.
‘Sure, “hitting it off”… whatever, she thought, rolling her eyes.
Alaric’s eyes sparkled with mischief as he said, “Why don’t we have a nice, long chat, Ophelia?”
Ophelia shot him a glare and gritted her teeth. “Shut up. I don’t want to talk.”
“It’s fine, I can wait. I’ll be right here whenever you feel like talking,” Alaric replied, totally unfazed by her rejection.
His words got even more flirty, and he was clearly enjoying every second of it.
Ella, sitting next to Ophelia, had her jaw practically on the floor. ‘OMG!’ she thought.
‘Did I just witness that? Should I even be seeing this?’ she wondered.
‘This is like live shipping. I’m getting all the sweet moments in real time!’ she squealed inwardly.
Just watching these two gorgeous people flirt and tease each other had her heart pounding. Ella was fangirling so hard, she could barely sit still.
‘Front-row seats for the drama. This is the best!’ she thought.
Ella was so excited, she grabbed Ophelia’s arm without even realizing it. It felt like she might just yeet Ophelia into Alaric’s lap any second now.
Ophelia shot her a look, and Ella just jerked her chin at Alaric. ‘Boss, don’t overthink it! Black inside or not, just claim your snack already!’ she mouthed.
Ophelia rubbed her forehead, totally exasperated. ‘Whose side are you even on?’ she thought.
She shut her eyes, basically done with both of them for now.
Thank goodness the summit was finally starting.
“First off, thanks to everyone for coming…” the host said.
