Chapter 240
“Oliver, I heard Maplewood Capital is interested in partnering with Rowle Group. Why not let us take that project?” Asher finally spoke up.
That was exactly why they’d come back this time.
If they could score the Maplewood Capital deal, the branch office’s numbers would look way better, and Asher could finally get himself transferred back to HQ, maybe even have a real chance to call the shots at Rowle Group
Tm the eldest son, Rowle Group should’ve gone to me, no question, Asher thought to himself.
But Tristan always favored Adrian and his side of the family. First, he put Adrian in charge of HQ, and now he’s just handing it straight to Oliver? Asher was seriously pissed.
Not only had he lost to his own brother, now even his nephew was stepping all over him.
“I haven’t received any cooperation proposal from Maplewood Capital,” Oliver replied, his tone cool and dismissive, he was clearly shutting Asher down.
Asher’s face darkened instantly. “You really expect me to buy that?”
“Believe it or not, that’s your call, Oliver said, totally unfazed, as he calmly picked up his fork and started eating.
Oliver knew Asher was all ambition and no real ability, but as long as it didn’t mess with HQ, he couldn’t be bothered to deal with him.
“You!” Asher looked like he was about to explode, his face dark with fury.
“Asher, seriously we came back to see Dad, not to argue about work. Just eat, Henry said, giving him a warning glance. Asher gritted his teeth and let out a disgruntled grunt, but he had no choice but to swallow his anger for now.
Fine, if that’s how it’s gonna be, let’s see who comes out on top, Asher thought.
Ophelia listened quietly to the conversation, but she was already onto them.
So they want to team up with Maplewood Capital, huh?’ Ophelia thought.
‘Going to Oliver won’t get them anywhere. In the end, it all comes down to whether I say yes, she thought to herself.
Just as they were eating, Ophelia’s phone suddenly rang.
Her brows furrowed as she read the name on the screen: Alaric.
“Ophelia, who is it?” Victoria asked, her eyes full of concern.
“Uh, just a friend, Ophelia said. She meant to hang up, but her nerves got the better of her and she picked up without thinking.
She grabbed her phone, slipped out of the dining room, and kept her voice low. “What do you want?”
“Why are you whispering? You sound like you’re hiding something,” Alaric teased.
‘I’m just answering your call, Ophelia muttered, clearly annoyed.
‘If I wasn’t worried about my family overhearing, I wouldn’t have to sneak around like I’m up to no good, Ophelia thought, irritated.
“Let me guess, you’re at Rowle Manor, Alaric said, not even bothering to make it sound like a real question. Ophelia let out a frustrated sigh. “Yeah. Just get to the point, will you?”
“Did you seriously forget what you promised me?” Alaric complained, his voice dripping with fake sadness.
