Chapter 242
Chapter 242
Snapping out of it, Ophelia shot him a scolding look. “Hey, button up properly.”
‘This guy always knows how to get under my skin, Ophelia thought.
“Ophelia, I’m tired,” Alaric said, leaning in and letting his head fall onto her shoulder.
“Hey, Alaric, sit up,” Ophelia said, giving his head a gentle shove. But he didn’t move an inch, just mumbled, “Ophelia, just let me nap for a while.”
Ophelia looked down and realized he’d already closed his eyes.
Alaric was really exhausted. He hadn’t slept for a whole day and night.
But when he heard she was heading back to Rowle Manor and everyone from the Rowle family would be there, he ended up tagging along, not even sure why himself.
He’d wanted to go in, but in the end, he gave her the choice.
Even though he didn’t get to go inside, at least she came out to be with him.
‘Guess this is enough for now, Alaric thought, feeling a little satisfied.
But… what he really wanted was to be recognized as her man. ‘Looks like getting that title isn’t gonna be easy, he thought with a wry smile.
Half-asleep, Alaric just drifted off right there, his head resting on Ophelia’s shoulder.
It was a rare sight, he wasn’t being all bossy, no scheming, no drama, just quietly lying there. Totally different from the Alaric she usually knew.
Funny thing was, it was only when he was like this that she could actually look at him and feel calm.
With him this close, she could see every little detail of his face, his brows, his lashes, even the way his breath brushed against her skin. And somehow, her eyes kept lingering on his lips, unable to look away.
Ophelia just kept staring at him, lost in thought, until the car finally came to a stop.
“Mr. Caldwell…” the driver began.
“Shh,” Ophelia whispered.
Just as the driver was about to say something to Alaric, Ophelia stopped him.
Unexpectedly, Alaric stirred awake, and as soon as he opened his eyes, he found himself staring straight into her bright, clear eyes.
He curled his lips into a meaningful smile, his tone playful. “Ophelia, have you been staring at me this whole time?” “No!” Ophelia shot back, whipping her head to the side, but inside, her heart was a total mess.
Alaric let out a low chuckle, flashing a cocky grin. “Ophelia, no need to be shy. I don’t mind at all. If you want to stare, go ahead, I’m not complaining.”
Ophelia gave him a look like she couldn’t stand him, pushed his head off her shoulder, and said, “We’re here. Get out.”
“Alright,” Alaric replied with a grin, getting out first and waiting for her.
As Ophelia stepped out of the car, she found herself trapped in the narrow space between Alaric and the vehicle, his presence boxing her in.
She glanced up, meeting his deep gaze, his eyes glittered, like there were stars hidden inside.
They were standing so close, their breaths mingling, and the air between them turned undeniably intimate.
For a moment, Ophelia forgot to breathe, her mind going completely blank.
Alaric’s gaze landed on her lips, so tempting it made him want to steal a kiss right then and there.
But…
Suddenly, Alaric turned abruptly, grabbed Ophelia’s hand, and headed straight for the restaurant.
If he didn’t leave now, he might just lose control and kiss her for real.
