Chapter 257
Chapter 257
“It’s nothing,” Ophelia said, pulling her arm back. She turned to Layla, her gaze icy cold. “You really don’t know when to quit.”
“Winner takes all, loser gets nothing. What’s the point in talking about it?” Layla sneered, her voice dripping with contempt.
‘Sure, she’d failed, but that didn’t mean she’d done anything wrong, Layla thought to herself.
Now, she had nothing left. The Vossen family didn’t feel like home anymore, and Vossen Group was falling apart. She was about to lose everything.
She’d finally managed to hook up with a rich guy, thinking she could finally turn her life around, even if he was just some old man, she endured it. But in the end, she was left with nothing. It was all just a bad joke.
‘Why do I have to lose everything?’ Layla thought bitterly.
‘It’s all because of Ophelia. She’s the reason my life’s a mess!’ Layla fumed inwardly.
‘If it wasn’t for Ophelia, the Vossen family wouldn’t have fallen so far, and I wouldn’t be stuck in this miserable situation, Layla seethed, resentment burning in her chest.
“You’ll get what’s coming to you, Ophelia. Just wait and see,” Layla hissed through gritted teeth, her voice shaking with hatred.
Ophelia walked up to Layla, looking down at her with a cold, mocking smirk. “That’s not something you need to worry about anymore. You should be thinking about whether you’ll ever get out for the rest of your life.”
‘She doesn’t even know what fate has in store for her, yet she’s still wasting energy cursing others, Ophelia thought, her gaze full of contempt.
“Ryan, handle this,” Alaric said, taking Ophelia’s hand and leading her into New City Tower.
Ella was about to follow, but Alaric called out, “Go help with the investigation.”
“Yes, sir,” Ella replied, freezing in place. She didn’t dare follow any further.
The police were already on the scene, so Ella went to talk to the cops.
Alaric led Ophelia into the office.
“Where’s the first aid kit?” Alaric asked, already scanning the room.
“Here,” Ophelia said, sitting down on the couch. She pulled out the first aid kit, opened it, and was about to treat her wound herself.
Alaric’s expression darkened. “Let me do it.”
Ophelia raised an eyebrow, meeting his intense gaze. After a brief hesitation, for some reason, she found herself agreeing. “Alright.”
It was just a small wound, nothing serious, just needed a little first aid.
But seeing how serious he looked, for once, she didn’t argue and let him take over.
Alaric sat down and tended to her injury with painstaking care, his face so grim it looked like a thundercloud ready to burst.
“So what happened, really?” Alaric asked, his voice low and restrained.
I
“Just someone out for revenge, I guess,” Ophelia said, sounding totally unfazed.
Alaric’s brows knitted together. “Then how’d you end up hurt?”
He seriously doubted that person could even lay a finger on her.
“Just an accident. I’ll take care of it,” Ophelia said, her brow furrowing a little.
Even though it was just a small wound, the antiseptic still stung when it touched her skin.
Alaric gave her a helpless look. “Didn’t you say it was just a minor injury?”

“Minor injuries hurt too, you know,” Ophelia shot back, rolling her eyes at him.
But when she met his eyes, Ophelia could actually see the pain in them, and her own eyes widened just a little.
After a moment, Ophelia awkwardly looked away and said softly, “Really, I’m fine.”
