Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 259

Chapter 259

Chapter 259

Ella looked confused. “Did she do something else bad?”

“We’re settling all the old scores. Even if she wasn’t the one pulling the strings, she’s still an accomplice or at least covering for them,” Alaric said quietly, his gaze lowered.

Ella’s eyes went wide. “With all those charges piling up, she’s just digging herself a deeper hole.”

‘Serves her right,’ Ella thought.

‘People who are messed up in the head should be locked away so they don’t hurt anyone else, she added to herself.

“Alright, the rest is up to the police,” Ophelia said, clearly done wasting energy on Layla. She quickly switched gears. “Let’s go to the meeting.”

No point in making everyone wait any longer after all the delay Layla caused.

“No need, it’s already canceled,” Alaric said quietly. “We can reschedule. You should really take it easy today.”

“I’m fine, it’s just a little, ” Ophelia started, but cut herself off before she could say “injury.”

Alaric was really getting into character again. If someone didn’t know better, they’d think he was the one who got hurt.

“Can you just act normal for once?” Ophelia sighed, rubbing her forehead in exasperation.

“No work today,” Alaric said, putting on a stern face, but there was no real authority in it, he just looked like a sulky kid throwing a tantrum.

“Uh… Boss, I’m gonna head out now,” Ella said, not daring to stick around for more drama, she just wanted to make a quick escape.

After all, now that she’d caught this whole scene, she was honestly worried Alaric would want to silence her for good once he realized she’d seen everything.

As soon as Ella slipped out, Ophelia shot Alaric a glare. “Seriously, enough already.”

Even Ella, the ultimate gossip queen, couldn’t stand to watch anymore, but Alaric still didn’t know when to quit.

But Alaric wasn’t budging. “No work, period.”

Watching him dig his heels in like a stubborn kid, Ophelia sighed quietly. “Fine, I get it.”

“Let’s go,” Alaric said, snapping back to normal in an instant. He grabbed Ophelia’s hand and headed out.

Ophelia gave him a baffled look. “Where are we going?”

‘How come he changed his attitude so fast?’ She thought to herself.

“You’re resting, and I’m keeping you company,” Alaric said, his eyes warm with a gentle, confident smile, as if it was only natural.

Ophelia shook off his hand with a hint of disdain. “No need.”

She was actually planning to get back to work as soon as he left.

‘Seriously? Now he wants to drag me along with him?’ Ophelia thought, rolling her eyes.

Alaric lowered his gaze, giving her a sly smile. “Are you just waiting for me to leave so you can sneak back to work?”

He could tell right away how fake her agreement was, she was just pretending to go along with him. Ophelia’s lips twitched. ‘Seriously, how does he always see right through me?’ she thought.

“Of course not, I’m just heading home,” she said, no way she was going to admit the truth.

“I’ll walk you home,” Alaric insisted, clearly not buying her excuse.

Ophelia ground her teeth in frustration, then just plopped down on the couch. “Fine, I’ll just stay here, okay?”

“Alright,” Alaric said, looking perfectly satisfied as he sat down beside her.

“Don’t you have to get back to work at Caldwell Group?” Ophelia gave him a pointed look, trying to nudge him out the door.
