Chapter 302 Chapter 302
‘Sure sounds nice, but it’s still just him threatening me, she thought.
“Of course there is,” Alaric said with a teasing smirk. “If you agree, it just shows how you really feel about me.”
Ophelia couldn’t help but shoot him a wry look. “Guess you’re not that injured after all, Mr. Caldwell.”
‘He’s really laying it on thick now. He must be totally fine, she thought.
Alaric sucked in a sharp breath, hissing in pain. Ophelia immediately asked, “What’s wrong? Did you pull at your wound?”
But he kept holding her tight, so she went completely rigid, afraid that any movement might make his injury worse.
“Ophelia, it hurts. Can you let me hold you a little longer?” Alaric pleaded, his voice soft and full of pain.
The pain was real, but so was the fact that he just couldn’t bear to let her go.
Honestly, it was like the pain faded away whenever he held her close.
Ophelia took a deep breath, trying to keep her cool. “Let me check your wounds first, okay? You really need to get your bandages changed.”
“Not happening. If I let go, you’ll just push me away and I’ll lose my painkiller. I only feel better when I’m holding you,” Alaric said, tightening his grip even more, stubborn as ever.
The room went quiet. Ophelia didn’t say anything, her mind racing.
Alaric stayed silent too, just holding her tight and refusing to let go.
Just when it seemed like neither of them would speak, Ophelia finally broke the silence, sounding a bit awkward. “Let me go so I can check your wounds. If you’re really okay, then… I’ll get back in bed with you.”
As soon as she said it, a complicated expression appeared on Ophelia’s face.
After all that hesitation, she just couldn’t help but say yes.
He’d gotten hurt so badly just to save her. She just couldn’t bring herself to say no
Alaric raised his brow ever so slightly and let her go, playing along. “Don’t forget, you said you’d do it, Ophelia.”
“Do I look like someone who’d go back on my word?” Ophelia grumbled, her cheeks flushing.
Even though it felt a bit strange, she decided to just listen to her heart. ‘Whatever, I’ll follow what I really feel; she thought.
Once she was free, Ophelia quickly slipped out of bed, steadied herself, and carefully checked Alaric’s injuries.
Alaric kept his eyes locked on her, catching every bit of worry and tenderness in her gaze. He couldn’t help but let a soft smile tug at his lips.
‘See? This little troublemaker really does care about me, he thought, feeling pretty pleased with himself.
After she finished checking his wounds and changing his bandages, Ophelia’s eyes rimmed with tears and her voice shook as she said, “You’re not in any danger anymore, but you still need to stay here and recover properly.”
She couldn’t even begin to imagine how she’d handle it if something really happened to him.
But even so, seeing him hurt so badly made her chest tighten with a dull, lingering ache.
