Chapter 303
Chapter 303
Ophelia bit back her frustration and said in a low voice, “Alaric, even if you’re trying to save someone, you can’t just throw your life away. If something really happened to you, I couldn’t handle that.”
“If I die, you won’t have to worry about me,” Alaric curved his lips into a teasing smile, his voice soft and full of warmth.
Ophelia instinctively covered his mouth, teasing, “Don’t talk nonsense. No more talk about dying, okay?”
Alaric gently removed her hand and kept it firmly in his. “But since I’m perfectly fine, you’re stuck with me now. Don’t even think about shaking me off.”
Ophelia froze for a second, instinctively trying to pull her hand away, but then she caught sight of Alaric’s brows knitting together like he was really in pain.
“Are you okay?” Ophelia leaned in, worriedly fussing over him as she checked his condition.
Before she could do anything, Alaric swooped in and pressed a kiss to her cheek, smirking. “Your kiss is the best medicine.”
Ophelia gave him a pouty glare, unable to tell if he was just messing with her or actually hurting. But seeing how pale he looked, she could only sigh.
‘Fine, he’s the one who’s hurt, and it was all to save me anyway, she thought.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
Someone knocked on the glass, and Ophelia glanced over, her face instantly turning red with embarrassment.
‘When did all these people show up outside?’ she stared in disbelief.
Ophelia gave Ella a look, annoyed. ‘Why didn’t you warn me?’
Ella just shrugged innocently. “How was I supposed to know you two would go all out first thing in the morning?”
Not satisfied yet, Ella jerked her chin at Alaric, as if to say, ‘Boss, take it easy. Mr. Caldwell’s still hurt, you know.’
Ophelia’s lips twitched, and for a moment, she was so exasperated she couldn’t even get a word out.
“You can move to a regular room now. I’ll go arrange it,” Ophelia said, her tone a bit frosty as she turned away and walked
off.
“Ophelia, you just promised me. Are you really going to go back on your word?” Alaric sounded so aggrieved, his voice tinged with hurt.
Ophelia didn’t even slow down. If anything, she picked up her pace and walked off even faster.
‘Seriously, is he blind to the crowd out there?’ Ophelia thought, exasperated.
This wasn’t just about not being able to explain herself. She honestly had no idea where to even start.
Watching her walk away, Alaric’s lips curled into a subtle, almost imperceptible smile.
He couldn’t care less if people saw them. If anything, he wished he could broadcast it to the whole world.
Ophelia stepped out of the room and immediately turned to Ryan. “Go take care of it. He can move to a regular room, but make sure his care level stays the same.”
“Got it, Mrs. Caldwell,” Ryan replied with a grin, then headed off.
‘Boss is safe, and Mrs. Caldwell’s all good too, Ryan thought to himself.
‘Man, today’s just a great day, he grinned.
Ophelia took a deep breath, ignoring Ryan’s teasing, and turned to her family with a calm smile. “Mom, Dad, Oliver, you’re here.”
‘No point trying to explain. It’s just not worth the effort, she thought.
“Yeah,” Oliver replied, raising an eyebrow ever so slightly. “Let’s talk in your room.”
“Alright,” Ophelia said, turning and heading toward her own room.
Ella kept her head down, doing her best to stay invisible as she quietly slipped out of the hospital.
Since everything was fine, she decided to get on with her own stuff.
Most importantly, there was no way she was sticking around the Boss right now. She didn’t want to end up as cannon fodder.
