Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 32

**Paths Lead To Purpose — Kevin Masters**
**Chapter 32**

She truly needed to establish a boundary with him from this point forward.

Ophelia’s earlier remarks had cast a shadow of doubt over Connor’s perception of Alaric. “Why are you so invested in a girl’s affairs?” he queried, his tone laced with skepticism.

Alaric had always been the type to maintain a respectable distance from women in their social circle. Over the years, aside from some fleeting whispers surrounding his engagement to Zoe, his fiancée, there had been little else to note.

‘So what’s sparked this newfound interest in Ophelia?’ Connor pondered, his mind racing with questions.

Noticing the guarded look etched on Connor’s face, Alaric’s lips curled into a sudden smile, a glint of mischief in his eyes. “Connor, are you not aware? Dr. Vossen is actually the genuine heiress of the Rowle family, recently discovered, and the one who is truly engaged to me.”

“What?” Connor was so taken aback by Alaric’s revelation that he stumbled backward, his mind struggling to process the information.

Fortunately, Ophelia was quick to react; she grasped Connor’s arm firmly, irritation flashing across her features. “Alaric, what absurdity are you spouting? That engagement is clearly between you and Zoe. Don’t drag me into this mess.”

Connor, who had only just begun to settle into the situation, felt the ground shift beneath him as Alaric exposed her true identity. ‘Is he trying to give him a heart attack?’ she mused, concern flaring within her.

“Ophelia, you really are the heiress of the Rowle family?” Connor’s voice trembled slightly, a mix of disbelief and intrigue. He recalled snippets of conversation he had overheard during his recent hospital stay, whispers about the Rowle family swirling in the air.

He had no inkling as to why Ophelia had distanced herself from the Vossen family, nor had he ever connected the dots between her and the long-lost heiress of the Rowle family.

The pieces began to fit together in his mind, and suddenly, it made sense why she had opted to change her last name.

Eager to quell the rising tension, Ophelia took a deep breath and admitted, “Yes, but this doesn’t change my ability to treat you. I didn’t mention it because it’s irrelevant. Connor, don’t get too worked up; there’s nothing shocking about it.”

As she spoke, she couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Connor has faced numerous challenges, so why is he so flabbergasted by my lineage?’

Unbeknownst to her, it was not merely her status as the Rowle heiress that left Connor reeling; it was the revelation of her engagement to Alaric that truly stunned him.

If she truly was the heiress, and considering that Zachary had been saved by her, it was inevitable that Zachary would soon be vying for her attention.

At this realization, Connor felt a pang of regret wash over him. “I-I basically introduced you to Zachary.”

Had they remained strangers, perhaps it would have been simpler. But now that they were aware of Ophelia’s extraordinary capabilities, there was no way they would let her slip away.
