Chapter 369

“It’s nothing,” Ophelia replied coolly, pulling her gaze away. A faint smirk tugged at her lips as she asked, “Bianca, you seem awfully interested in Alaric. Why not just ask him yourself? Didn’t you two just meet today?”

“It’s not like that,” Bianca said, looking a little flustered for a moment before regaining her composure. “I was just there for work. I was just asking casually. If you don’t want to talk about it, you don’t have to.”

Ophelia’s lips curved into a cold, mocking smile. ‘She’s really good at faking it, she thought.

‘Too bad real elegance can’t be faked. Wonder how long she can keep pretending, Ophelia mused.

“It’s not that I don’t want to talk about it. I just don’t think it’s necessary,” Ophelia replied, turning to Tristan with a faint smile. “Tonight’s a family dinner, and Bianca just got back. Let’s focus on catching up with Grandpa instead of talking about other people.”

“Ophelia is always the considerate one,” Tristan said, nodding with a pleased smile.

Bianca clenched her jaw, but kept her smile calm. “Honestly, it’s been ages since I was last in Dunhollow. I really missed Grandpa.”

“Then go ahead and catch up with Grandpa,” Ophelia said, raising an eyebrow at Bianca.

Bianca smiled gently and began speaking softly with Tristan.

The others joined in the conversation here and there, and the dinner table seemed peaceful enough on the surface. But beneath it all, everyone had their own schemes brewing.

Bianca snuck a few glances at Ophelia, a frosty edge glinting in her eyes.

The next day.

Ophelia got ready for another day at New City Tower, just like always.

But just as she was about to head out, she ran into Alaric, who was just leaving his hospital room.

They locked eyes for a moment, and Alaric’s eyes softened with a smile. “Heading to the office? Want me to drive you, Ophelia?”

“No need,” Ophelia mentally rolled her eyes and warned him, “You still need to rest. And don’t even think about working

overtime.”

She honestly hadn’t expected it. She’d come back from the old house yesterday, and he was still stuck at work.

If she hadn’t kept calling to nag him, who knows how late he’d have stayed.

Sure, she got that things were crazy at the company, but his health had to come first.

Alaric gave her a hopeful smile, eyes shining with anticipation. “So, Ophelia, will you actually come home on time tonight and hang out with me?”

Ophelia shot him a look, but still reminded him, “I’ve got a banquet tonight. Just get some rest when you get back, no need

to wait up.”

Alaric’s gaze dimmed, disappointment flickering across his face. “What kind of banquet?” he pressed.

“Just a business event,” Ophelia said simply, not bothering to explain further before heading off.

Alaric watched her walk away, his eyes darkening for a moment.

“Why won’t she even tell me what kind of banquet it is?” Alaric grumbled, feeling a bit irked for no reason.

Just the thought of not seeing her tonight left him feeling strangely empty inside.

But Ophelia didn’t notice his mood at all and quickly left the hospital.

By the time Alaric stepped outside, she’d already driven off. Alaric could only shake his head and let out a quiet sigh.

‘Does she really not miss me at all?’ Alaric thought, feeling a little bitter.

“Mr. Caldwell,” Ryan said, a bit surprised as he walked over. “What brings you down here?”

He lifted the bag in his hand and gave it a little shake. “Ms. Rowle asked me to grab breakfast for you. You should eat before heading to the office.”
