Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 38

**Paths Lead To Purpose — Kevin Masters**
**Chapter 38**

“Ophelia, you absolutely made the right choice,” Owen declared, his voice brimming with enthusiasm as he wrapped his arm around Ophelia’s shoulder, his admiration evident in the sparkle of his eyes.

“What do you mean, behind me for what?” Ophelia replied, her brow furrowing in confusion, a hint of curiosity lacing her tone.

Owen puffed out his chest, a proud grin spreading across his face. “For standing up against that moral blackmail! It takes guts to do what you did.”

Zoe, who had been quietly observing the exchange, felt a pang of hurt. “Owen, you’ve really misunderstood my intentions,” she interjected, her voice wavering as if she might burst into tears at any moment.

Victoria, sensing the tension in the air, let out a soft sigh, her eyes darting between the two. “Owen, please, don’t say things like that. It’s not helping.”

Owen shrugged, a casual gesture that seemed to dismiss the gravity of the situation. He turned his attention back to Ophelia, his expression shifting to one of eagerness. “Ophelia, I have a couple more questions I’d like to ask you. Let’s go to my room; this place is just too dull.”

“Sure, let’s go,” Ophelia replied, taking hold of Owen’s hand, her heart fluttering with a mix of excitement and uncertainty as they left the living room together.

Watching their close interaction, Zoe’s heart sank, a wave of jealousy washing over her. *How did Ophelia manage to charm Owen and turn him into her devoted follower?* she wondered bitterly.

“Zoe, why don’t you put your dress away for now? Tomorrow, I’ll take you to the mall to check out some jewelry and handbags,” Victoria’s voice broke through Zoe’s spiraling thoughts, bringing her back to reality.

“Okay, thanks, Mom,” Zoe replied softly, her voice barely above a whisper as she slipped back into her obedient daughter persona, the weight of her feelings momentarily set aside.

Victoria reached out, smoothing Zoe’s hair with a gentle touch. “Look at you, starting to be polite again, huh?”

But a nagging feeling tugged at Victoria’s heart. Something about Zoe seemed off.

Zoe felt a flutter of anxiety, her heart racing for a moment before she regained her composure. “No, Mom, I’m just really touched. You’re the only one who treats me this well.”

Victoria chuckled, relieved, her worries dissipating. “Silly girl,” she said, brushing off the tension.

“Mom, I didn’t sleep well last night. I feel a bit tired now and would like to rest,” Zoe admitted, her expression revealing the exhaustion that clung to her like a shadow.

“If you’re feeling tired, then you should definitely go and rest,” Victoria said, her concern evident in her voice.

“Alright, I’m heading to my room,” Zoe agreed, rising to her feet, the elevator calling to her like a sanctuary.

Chloe, clutching the dress in her hands, hurried to catch up with Zoe and accompanied her back to the room.

Once inside, Zoe carefully placed the dress in the walk-in closet, her heart still heavy. Chloe stood beside her, a comforting presence.

“Don’t worry, Zoe. She may want to overshadow you, but I won’t let her get away with it,” Chloe whispered, her voice low and reassuring.
