Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 453

Chapter 453

“Well.” Alaric switched to a puppy-eyed look in a heartbeat. “If I told you things didn’t go well and your brother was giving me a hard time on purpose, would you go rough him up for me, Ophelia?”

Ophelia’s mouth twitched. ‘Seriously? He wants me to beat up my own brother? How did he come up with something like that?’ she thought.

She gave Alaric a cold side-eye and asked meaningfully, “You really want me to do that?”

“Would you really do that for me, Ophelia?” Alaric gazed at her intensely and expectantly. ‘Just say the word and I’m happy.’ He thought.

Ophelia rolled her eyes secretly. ‘He’s really a smart ass, she thought.

“No,” Ophelia shut him down cold, not giving him even a shred of hope. Even if he was just joking, she wouldn’t agree to it to humor him. “Well, I knew it,” Alaric just looked hurt, not really disappointed.

Ophelia couldn’t help but roll her eyes. ‘Seriously, acting all hurt? As if he’d actually be upset over something like this. She thought.

“Ophelia, you won’t even pretend for me, not even a little?” Alaric got up and sauntered over, putting his hands on either side of her chair, leaning in close so their eyes locked. His face just a breath away from hers.

Ophelia instinctively leaned back, trying to keep some space between them.

But the more she tried to dodge, the closer he got, until her back was pressed flat against the chair and her whole body turned stiff. Alaric was practically hovering over her, leaving her nowhere to run.

Their posture was enough to make any girl blush and get her heart pounding. The atmosphere became tense and ambiguous.

Alaric’s eyes darkened and he swallowed. He said in a teasing and seductive voice, “Ophelia, if you won’t fight for me, then you’ve got to make it up to my broken heart, don’t you think?”

“Huh?” Ophelia froze for a second, totally confused. ‘What is he even getting at?’ She thought.

His eyes lingered on her lips, so close, so tempting, and he couldn’t help but want to steal a kiss right then and there.

That passion in his eyes was impossible to miss. Ophelia snapped back to reality, instinctively pressing a hand to his chest and warning through gritted teeth, “Keep it together. We’re in the office.”

‘Honestly, doesn’t he know it’s broad daylight and I’m supposed to be working? Ophelia thought.

“Oh, so that’s what’s got you all flustered, Ophelia?” Alaric lowered his gaze with a teasing smirk.

‘What does he mean by that?’ Ophelia wondered.

She blinked, and finally realized what that look on his face meant.

“Get off me,” Ophelia shot him a glare and shoved at him.

‘This jerk! He totally caught me off guard, and I just blurted out something way more suggestive than I meant, Ophelia thought, annoyed.

Seeing her all flustered and annoyed, Alaric smirked. He grabbed both her hands, and pulled her up in one swift motion, pressing her against the wall.

Pinned between him and the wall, and feeling his dangerous and intoxicating breath between them, Ophelia found her heart racing.

Before she could protest, Alaric claimed her lips in a possessive, wild kiss, leaving her no chance to resist.

His strong hands were locked around her waist, keeping her from pulling away. That commanding kiss slowly broke down Ophelia’s defenses, leaving her dazed and breathless.

As he felt her surrender, his kiss grew gentle, slow and lingering…

The whole world went quiet, like time stopped just for them.

The phone suddenly rang, jolting both of them out of their daze.

Ophelia snapped back to reality, her face flushed the natively phelaric away and whispered, “Your phone.”

Successfully unlocked!

‘Thank goodness no one came in. If anyone had besed; Ophelia thought, her heart still pounding. Seeing her all flustered, Alaric smiled.

“Answer your phone! Why are you smiling?” Ophelia shot him an annoyed glare. Is he seriously spacing out right now? she thought.

“Ophelia, you’re absolutely adorable when you’re shy, Alaric teased and then dropped a quick kiss on her lips.

Just as her fist came swinging, Alaric stepped back just in time, waving the phone that was practically blowing up in his hand before finally picking up. “Hello!”

After a moment of silence, Alaric suddenly lifted his gaze to meet Ophelia’s eyes.

Ophelia frowned slightly. He hadn’t said a word, but she definitely caught that split-second of tension in his expression. “Go handle it, Alaric said coldly, and then hung up.

He put his phone away, gently took Ophelia’s hand, and said, “Let’s go get something to eat.”

“Don’t you have something urgent to take care of?” Ophelia lowered her eyes. She hadn’t heard the call, but she could tell from his expression how he was feeling.

“Food comes first, Alaric brushed it off, quickly changing the subject.

Seeing he didn’t want to talk about it, Ophelia sighed and agreed, “Let’s go.”

‘Guess we’re eating first. He’ll probably go handle his own stuff after lunch,’ Ophelia thought.

Ophelia could tell that something urgent was up, so she didn’t protest when Alaric took her hand and led her into the elevator. They walked in hand in hand.

It didn’t take long for rumors about them to sweep through the company. Everyone was gossiping.

Meanwhile, the couple had no idea. They just left the building, got in the car, and drove away.

“Where do you want to eat?” Alaric glanced at her and could tell she was a little tense.

He raised his eyebrows slightly, realizing that his phone call just now had got her all worked up.

“Wait, is she worried about me?’ Alaric thought, and his heart melted a little.

He squeezed her hand gently and said in a soft voice, “Relax, it’s just a quick business trip. Nothing serious.”

Ophelia glanced at him, her tone uncertain, “If it’s just a business trip, why did you sound so intense on the phone?”

It didn’t sound like some routine work thing at all. It was more like there was some kind of emergency.

Alaric rested his head on her shoulder, acting all clingy, “It’s just that I really don’t want to leave you, Ophelia. I hate being apart from you.”

Ophelia couldn’t help feeling both frustrated and a little ticked off.

‘I thought it was something urgent. But it turns out he’s just being dramatic because he doesn’t want to leave me? Unbelievable! Ophelia grumbled.

‘Then just don’t go, Ophelia rolled her eyes. ‘Honestly, he’s just begging to get smacked,’ she thought.

“Sure, Alaric just went along with it, whipping out his phone like he was about to call and cancel it on the spot. Ophelia’s eyes widened in disbelief, and she instinctively grabbed his hand, annoyed. “Alaric, how old are you, seriously?” ‘He’s actually about to ditch his responsibilities like a little kid? How did he come up with something so childish? Ophelia thought, speechless.

“If you want me to stay, Ophelia, of course I’ll do whatever you say,” Alaric said, as if it was the most natural thing in the world.

Ophelia’s mouth twitched and she shot him a look, “Well, just go already and don’t rush back. Take your sweet time.” Seeing how little she cared, Alaric dramatically pulled her into his arms, pretending to be devastated. “Ophelia, how could you treat me like this? Do you know how much you’re hurting me?”
