Chapter 455
This time, things were seriously complicated. He had no idea when he’d be back, so he’d tried to steal every moment with
her before he had to leave.
Night was settling in, and the whole city was lighting up, coming alive under the glow of streetlamps and neon signs.
As Ophelia left work, she bumped into Oliver.
“Hey, Oliver,” she greeted and then added, “I’m going to visit Grandpa. Are you coming?”
“I was just about to head over. Let’s go together,” Oliver nodded toward his car for her to hop in.
Once they were settled in, Oliver glanced at Ophelia, noticing that she didn’t look so great. He asked with concern, “Not used to things yet? You look very tired.”
“No, everything’s been going smoothly,” Ophelia shook her head as her eyes wandered out the window.
She wasn’t actually tired. She was just feeling a little low, though she couldn’t put her finger on why.
“Are you worried about Grandpa?” Oliver asked, seeing how preoccupied she looked.
Ophelia bit her lips and murmured, “Maybe it’s because of Uncle Henry and Aunt Claire.”
Aunt Claire was already back home, finally off the hook for what had happened to Grandpa.
“Relax. If they’re still scheming, they’ll mess up eventually,” Oliver said confidently, like he had everything under control.
Ophelia leaned back in her seat, letting out a soft sigh.
She knew Oliver was right. She wasn’t actually worried. Still, she just couldn’t shake off this strange, gloomy feeling.
Oliver narrowed his eyes. He had a hunch that things weren’t as simple as Ophelia made them out to be.
But seeing her so upset, he decided not to push, letting her have the space she needed to sort through her thoughts.
They drove in silence all the way to the Rowle Manor.
When they walked into the living room, Grandpa Tristan was sipping his tea, with Henry and Claire hovering nearby, both looking extra cautious.
“Dad, I swear I had no idea that man was holding a grudge against you. I just wanted to help, hoping you’d wake up sooner,” Claire said, her voice low and nervous.
“I don’t know who that man is, or why he’d have it out for me. But since he’s already been caught, let’s just put it behind us,” Mr. Rowle replied, sounding calm and forgiving, like he wasn’t bothered at all.
Claire instantly put on a grateful smile and said, “Thank you, Dad, for not blaming me for my stupid mistake.”
“It’s fine,” Mr. Rowle said, waving her off gently. “You’ve had a rough time too, Go home and get some rest.”
Then Mr. Rowle turned to Henry, his gaze composed, “You too. No need to stay here. Go home and get some rest. You’ve got work tomorrow.”
Hearing this, Henry and Claire exchanged a glance, and their eyes lit up with relief.
“Alright, Dad. I won’t let you down. I’ll work hard,” Henry said earnestly, making a solemn promise.
