Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 470

Chapter 470

Of course, if Mr. Caldwell hadn’t been burning up with a fever and had Ophelia come over, no one would’ve found out about any of this.

“Mm.” Alaric’s eyes flashed cold for a second. ‘We’ll just carry on as usual, he thought.

“Are you sure there aren’t any red flags about the proposal leak?” Alaric leaned back in his chair, his deep voice sending a chill through the room.

‘If everyone involved is really clean, then how do you even explain something like this?’ Alaric thought, suspicion flickering in his eyes.

“On the surface, the evidence does suggest it was just an accident. We checked the secretary who lost the proposal, and she checks out,” Ryan said, his face darkening with frustration. “Whoever pulled this off is seriously slick.”

No one would believe that a leak of such an important proposal could be just an accident.

But with the evidence they had, there was nothing else to go on. For now, they had no choice but to leave it and keep investigating quietly.

“Then we’ll stop digging,” Alaric said, his long fingers tapping lightly on the desk. His calm, unruffled tone somehow made the pressure in the room even heavier.

Ryan frowned for a moment, then caught on and lowered his voice. “Mr. Caldwell, you want to lure them out and catch them in the act.”

“He can’t keep hiding in the shadows forever. Sooner or later, he’ll have to show his face,” Alaric said, a cold smirk tugging at his lips. ‘Once he shows his true colors, there’s no way he’ll be able to hide anymore; he thought.

“Understood. I’ll have someone keep watch,” Ryan said, his earlier gloom lifting a bit.

If they stopped investigating, the culprit would probably think he was in the clear.

And when people get cocky, that’s when they’re most likely to make a mistake.

Ophelia groggily opened her eyes in the afternoon.

She fumbled under her pillow for her phone and glanced at the time. “Oh, I actually slept this long? No wonder I’m a bit hungry,” she couldn’t help but sigh to herself.

She got out of bed and headed for the bathroom.

“Guess hunger finally woke you up, huh?” A sudden voice startled Ophelia.

Her mind snapped fully awake in an instant.

“Alaric, why didn’t you wake me up when you got back?” Ophelia shot him an annoyed look. ‘Was he trying to scare me to death, just sitting there in the dark?’ she thought.

“You looked so peaceful, I wanted you to rest a bit longer,” Alaric said as he walked over and pulled her into a gentle hug. His voice softened, “You’ve really had a tough time because of me.”

He truly appreciated her, she’d rushed over when he was sick and even helped him solve two huge problems.

“Let go of me,” Ophelia said, shoving him off, clearly annoyed. “I need to use the bathroom.”

‘Seriously, this guy can’t keep his hands to himself whenever we meet, Ophelia grumbled inwardly.

Alaric grinned as he watched her walk off toward the bathroom.

As Ophelia closed the door, she caught him still watching her, cheeks going red as she snapped, “Alaric, turn around!”

Even with the door shut and nothing to see, just knowing he was facing that way made her feel super awkward.

“Alright,” Alaric smirked and actually turned around, which surprised her.

Ophelia couldn’t help but twitch her lips. ‘Seriously, this is even weirder, she thought.

She sighed, then slammed the door hard, the loud bang saying everything about her annoyance and nerves.

Alaric chuckled softly, eyes full of affection.
