Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 48

**Paths Lead To Purpose — Kevin Masters**

**Chapter 48**

“Mr. Caldwell, I sincerely hope our paths do not cross again.” Ophelia’s voice was frosty, each word laced with a chill that hung in the air as she finished her statement. With a swift motion, she opened the car door and slipped inside, the finality of her action echoing in the silence that followed.

Dylan and Owen, ever the loyal companions, followed suit and settled into their seats, the atmosphere thick with unspoken thoughts.

As he watched the car vanish down the road, Alaric couldn’t help but allow a slight smile to play on his lips, though he shook his head gently in disbelief.

“What a heartless woman,” he muttered to himself, yet he found it curious how each encounter with her managed to lift his spirits unexpectedly. Ophelia navigated the winding streets back to the Rowle residence, her thoughts swirling like the leaves caught in the autumn breeze.

Upon their arrival, they were greeted by the sight of Victoria and Zoe returning home as well.

“Hi, Mom!” The trio exited the vehicle, their voices mingling in a cheerful greeting as they approached Victoria and Zoe, who stood waiting.

Zoe’s gaze immediately locked onto the sleek, polished sports car, her eyes narrowing with a mix of envy and resentment.

‘Seriously, how could Ophelia?’ Zoe thought, her internal dialogue brimming with irritation. ‘Even if Oliver gifted her the car, couldn’t she at least tone it down a notch? Did she really have to choose something this ostentatious?’

‘It’s obvious this car cost a small fortune. How could she shamelessly flaunt it?’

“Ophelia,” Victoria said, her voice warm and inviting, a gentle smile illuminating her features. “So, you found one that you like?”

“Yes,” Ophelia replied, her tone light and composed. “I thought it looked nice, so I decided to drive it home.”

“Ophelia,” Zoe interjected, her brow furrowed with concern, “I know Oliver encouraged you to pick whatever you wanted, but don’t you think you might’ve gone a bit overboard? How are you going to show up to school in something so flashy?”

There was no way she would allow Ophelia to make a spectacle of herself on campus again.

Ophelia turned her head slightly to glance at Zoe, her expression cool and unbothered. “Is there a rule at school against it?”

“Well, no,” Zoe admitted, biting her lip in frustration, trying to maintain her composure, though her facade of concern remained firmly in place. “But you just got to Dunhollow, and now that you’re enrolled at Dunhollow University, being too extravagant might give people the wrong idea about you.”

Zoe’s expression was one of genuine worry, as if she truly had Ophelia’s best interests at heart.

“It’s merely a car,” Dylan chimed in casually, his tone dismissive. “As a member of the Rowle family, she can drive whatever she pleases.”

Besides, the model Ophelia had chosen wasn’t even the priciest option; it simply appealed to her aesthetic sense.

“Dylan, that’s not my point,” Zoe rushed to clarify, her face paling slightly. “I just don’t want people gossiping behind her back.”
