Chapter 500
“Keep dreaming,” Alaric rolled his eyes at him, then took Ophelia’s hand. “Let’s go.”
‘Give this guy an inch and he wants the whole damn world, Alaric thought, exasperated.
George snickered, but the laugh instantly turned into a rough coughing fit.
Ophelia steadied him, her voice soft as she asked, “You okay?”
“I’m good,” he said, brushing her off once he’d gotten his breath back.
Ophelia hesitated for a moment, then looked at Alaric and said in a steady voice, “Can you step outside for a bit? I need a word with him.”
Since things had gotten this far today, she knew it was time to clear the air.
More than ever, she didn’t want to lose George as a friend.
Alaric frowned, clearly reluctant to leave, but Ophelia arched an eyebrow, giving him a look that said, ‘Don’t make me ask again.’
With a sigh, Alaric gave in, looking a bit sulky as he left the room.
“Anyone can see you two are crazy about each other, George said, feeling a bit jealous as he got a front-row seat to their lovey-dovey show.
He used to think he’d just been late to the game, but now he wasn’t so sure. Even if he’d shown up earlier, would she ever
have chosen him?
“Yeah, we are,” Ophelia admitted honestly.
Maybe back then she would’ve hesitated, and honestly, she couldn’t even say when Alaric started meaning so much to her. But now that she was sure about her feelings, she didn’t have to pretend anymore.
“Ophelia, I…” George started, his voice trailing off.
“Dunhollow might be fancy, but it’ll never really be yours. Honestly, I don’t think Clearwater City is any worse,” Ophelia looked him straight in the eye and said.
“If you ever want to visit Clearwater City, you’re always welcome,” George said, then paused and smirked, “Just make sure you come by yourself, don’t bring that walking jar of jealousy you call a boyfriend.”
“Walking jar of jealousy?” Ophelia couldn’t help but laugh, a little helpless. “If he was really that jealous, he wouldn’t have stepped out at all.”
“That’s only because I got hurt saving you. He owes me one,” George said, though he kept the rest to himself. Deep down, he had to admit Alaric really did care about Ophelia, otherwise, no way would he have left the room.
“Yeah, we really do owe you,” Ophelia couldn’t help but remind him gently, “Make sure you get plenty of rest. I’ll come visit you in three months, I really hope you’ll be completely back on your feet by then.”
“I will,” George nodded, then looked at Ophelia,Suce
Is there anything else you wanted to say to me?” He knew exactly what she’d been about to say. but now that he gotten unead of it, maybe this way, he wouldn’t have to hear her say no out loud.
