Chapter 97

Chapter 97

Scarlett’s breath caught in her throat, a flicker of unwarranted guilt passing through her eyes.

But the momentary unease quickly hardened into resentment. The mere thought of being bested by someone so young made her blood boil.

She released an exaggerated sigh, adopting a wounded tone. “Very well. I suppose I’ve overstepped. After all, you’re not my daughter to discipline. I’d hate to speak too harshly and embarrass your parents.”

“Given how poorly you’ve raised your own daughter,” Ophelia countered, her voice dripping with icy contempt, “I suggest you spare me your parental guidance.”

“How dare you speak to my mother like that!” Daphne cut in, her eyes blazing with fury. “Where are your manners?” “Manners?” Ophelia’s lips pulled into a mocking smile. “Do you even know the meaning of the word?”

“What did you just say?” Daphne demanded, her voice rising sharply.

“Then get out of my way.” Ophelia’s gaze swept over Daphne with chilling finality, her voice sharp enough to cut glass.

That look alone was enough to make Daphne’s breath hitch. She took two involuntary steps back before even realizing it, a reflexive retreat that now burned with humiliation.

Her cheeks flushed crimson as the realization set in. She had actually flinched under Ophelia’s stare. The humiliation curdled into rage, hot and bitter in her throat.

A faint smirk touched Ophelia’s lips as she watched Daphne’s expression shift from shock to fury.

Without another word, she turned and moved toward the central seating area, her steps measured and unconcerned. “Ophelia, get back here!” Daphne shouted, her voice trembling with wounded pride.

“Daphne, wait.” Scarlett grabbed her arm, her eyes fixed on Ophelia’s retreating figure. “Let her go. When security escorts her out, she’ll learn what real humiliation feels like.”

‘Stubborn girl, Scarlett thought. ‘She’ll regret this soon enough.’

That seemed to calm Daphne. A gleam of anticipation shone in her eyes as she watched Ophelia walk away.

‘Just wait until they throw you out, she thought. ‘We’ll see how high and mighty you are then.’

With barely concealed excitement, Daphne watched Ophelia proceed unchallenged into the central area. Her eyes widened as she saw Ophelia take the most prominent seat in the VIP section, completely unopposed.

The confrontation Daphne had been waiting for never came. She stood frozen, unable to process what she was seeing. “Mom…” she stammered, her voice barely a whisper. “Did you see that? How… how is this possible?”

Scarlett stood equally stunned, her face a mask of disbelief as she watched Ophelia sitting undisturbed in the place of honor.

At that moment, a staff member passed by. Scarlett quickly stopped them and asked, “Is that seat available to anyone?”

“Certainly not,” the staff member replied. “It’s reserved exclusively for those with special invitations.”

“So she really was invited by the organizers… But why?” Scarlett murmured, utterly perplexed.

“Are you absolutely sure there’s no mistake?” Daphne pressed, unable to accept the situation.

The idea seemed impossible. While she and her mother had only secured VIP tickets, Ophelia had received a formal

invitation, making Daphne feel as though she had just made a complete spectacle of herself.

The staff member frowned at her. “There’s no mistake. In fact, that guest was personally invited by our senior management. I’d advise you not to make assumptions.”

“Do you know why she was invited?” Scarlett ventured cautiously.

“Because she’s clearly qualified to be here,” the staff member replied dismissively, glancing at both of them. “You’ve been standing here for some time. Please take your seats.

“The show is about to begin. And remember, only invited guests are permitted beyond this point. Please return to the VIP section now.”

With a curt nod, the staff member walked away, leaving Daphne burning with humiliation.

“We need to speak with Claire about this,” Scar Successfully unlocked! ease setting in. “Something isn’t right.”

Not only had Adrian’s family taken control of the nuwe rays assets anu the main company, but now even his daughter, who had returned out of nowhere, was proving more formidable than expected. They had to prepare in advance.

“Mom…” Daphne protested, still unwilling to leave. Her pride had been thoroughly wounded.

“Let’s go,” Scarlett insisted sternly. “Do you want to stay and be further humiliated?”

“But…” Daphne hesitated.

“No arguments. Now,” Scarlett urged.

Pulled along by her mother, Daphne had no choice but to shoot one last furious glare in Ophelia’s direction before reluctantly following Scarlett away.

Every encounter with Ophelia ended in embarrassment, but this time, even Scarlett had been disregarded. The injustice burned through Daphne like fire.

All Scarlett could think about now was finding Claire as soon as possible. They had to strategize before the situation escalated.

The fashion show was already underway.

Free from distractions, Ophelia immersed herself in the curated collections gliding down the runway.

With the show ending earlier than expected, she texted Ella to see if she was free for dinner.

“To what do I owe this honor? Finally decided to take a break from saving the world?” Ella slid into her seat, a playful grin spreading across her face.

“Cut the crap,” Ophelia rolled her eyes affectionately and pushed the menu across the table. “Just order something.” “Don’t mind if I do!” Ella chirped, already scanning the options with glee.

When their food arrived, the table nearly disappeared beneath an army of plates.
