Still, not getting to taste that exquisite little beauty—a perfect blend of an angel and a demon—was an absolute tragedy!
...
At the Recess Club.
"Mr. Jennings, Steve—the man you ordered us to keep an eye on—has checked out of the Astoria Grand Hotel. The rest of his crew went with him."
Sheridan Jennings leaned back lazily in his executive leather chair, radiating an air of complete nonchalance.
"Since they're gone, we can drop the surveillance. It's better this way. I was starting to worry they were plotting a move against the club."
"Understood, sir. Though our men did catch something highly unusual outside the hotel before they left."
"How unusual? Give me the details."
The assistant quickly reported the findings. "Our team observed Steve attempting to launch an attack on Ms. Hawthorne, your sister's friend, right at the hotel entrance."
Sheridan's brows furrowed deeply. "Steve went after Stella? Why?"
Stella was Sylvie's close friend and had practically saved her in the past. He couldn't help but be concerned.
Not to mention, she was just an innocent, beautiful young woman. He couldn't let a brute like Steve target her.
"The motive is currently unclear, but our team managed to record the incident on their phones. Please, take a look."
The assistant pulled out his phone, pulled up the video, and handed it to Sheridan.
Sheridan exhaled a sharp breath after watching the clip. "That girl has incredible luck. She managed to dodge him by sheer coincidence."
"Who knows, maybe Steve just took a liking to her. It's a good thing they've already left the country, so she's no longer in danger. Keep this entirely quiet—don't mention a word of this to my sister. I don't want her stressing over it."
"Understood, Mr. Jennings."
He knew Stella was never the type to let anyone walk all over her anyway. He was just running his mouth; he wasn't actually worried about her.
"Awesome, get everything ready. See you there. I'm going to keep leaving my car at your shop, though. I really don't want Julius finding out about the street racing."
"Yes, yes, whatever you say, boss. I know the drill—you have to maintain the 'delicate flower who can't fend for herself' illusion for your husband."
Stella shot back a quick warning. "Exactly. So if you two ever accidentally cross paths, you'd better not blow my cover."
She was just playing a role, and she still wasn't entirely sure if Julius actually bought the act or not.
"You worry too much. A guy like your husband runs in completely different circles than a grease monkey like me. The chances of us ever bumping into each other are practically zero. And if we ever do, he probably would have already seen through your disguise anyway."
"Enough about him. I ordered a full spread for you and the guys at the restaurant across the street. Take them over when you get a chance. It's super close. Just give them your name and number. It's already paid for."
"Sweet! Thanks, Stella!"
