Rhoda beamed with joy. "Thanks, Una. You're the best."
Her mother had told her to network with more wealthy heiresses. She had finally managed to latch onto Una, so lately, she had been trailing after her like a loyal sidekick.
Una shot Steward a coquettish wink. "Steward, I certainly supported your business today, didn't I? You better remember me next time. I'm Una Lowell."
Steward had been enjoying the show immensely until Una suddenly purred his name in that cloying tone. He fought back the goosebumps erupting on his arms and forced out, "We look forward to your next visit, Ms. Lowell!"
Considering she was a fool with too much money, he could tolerate it just this once.
"Definitely! I'm a regular at Shirley & Co."
Clutching her "trophy," Una strutted haughtily out of the jewelry store with Rhoda in tow.
As they left, she made a point to walk right past Stella, her heels clicking aggressively on the floor.
Stella didn't get angry; instead, she gave her a cheerful wave goodbye.
The manager watched and listened to their entire interaction. What did the Lowell heiress just say?
She seemed to tell that distinguished man that she was supporting his business. Could this man be the owner of Shirley & Co.?
If this man was the boss, then didn't her dreams of sudden wealth just go up in smoke?
The boss had witnessed the whole thing. How was she supposed to pocket the extra one point eight million now?
Oh God, this was a disaster!
Ignoring the manager's mind running a marathon, Steward gave his assistant a few instructions.
Then he turned to Stella. "Ms. Hawthorne, how about we grab a drink across the street and settle up?"
Of course, it was a coffee shop across the street. He didn't dare drink alcohol with her again.
The general manager nodded. "Yes. I'm here to settle the extra one point eight million from the bracelet sale just now. The boss's assistant left instructions that the boss has other plans for these surplus funds and needs them transferred to his personal account."
The store manager almost lost her footing. It was a total wipeout!
That man earlier was indeed the boss, and the guy next to him was definitely the assistant. No wonder he stepped outside to make a call—he was calling the general manager!
That complimentary gift she just handed out was reserved for customers who spent over a million dollars. It was worth over ten grand!
Which meant, once the general manager swept away the extra one point eight million, the transaction would reflect a two hundred thousand dollar sale. That completely disqualified the customer from receiving the ten-thousand-dollar gift!
Now she had to pay for that gift out of her own pocket, because she was the one who gave it away!
Kill her now! She hadn't earned a single dime of profit, and instead, she had to pay over ten thousand out of pocket!
What kind of rotten luck was this?!
