Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 134

To prove her point, Stella deliberately held her plate of pasta up to the camera so Nadine could see it clearly.

"I've eaten, sweetie. Stella, why don't you come over and have dinner with me tonight? I miss you so much."

When Nadine put it like that, Stella couldn't exactly say no.

"Of course, Grandma. I'll come over this afternoon to keep you company."

Nadine smiled so wide her wrinkles deepened. "Wonderful, wonderful! I'll have the kitchen make all your favorite dishes. Come early so we can chat!"

"Will do, Grandma."

After hanging up with Nadine, Stella finished her lunch.

She planned to take a quick nap, then head over to the Blackwood Manor, stopping by the store on the way to pick up some of the fresh fruits Nadine loved.

By the time she arrived at the Manor, it was already past four in the afternoon.

As soon as she walked in, she saw Jason sitting there, chatting with Nadine.

"Grandma, I'm here. I brought you some fresh fruit."

"I'm just glad you're here! We have everything you could possibly need at home. You shouldn't have run out in the hot sun just to buy fruit. Come sit down and have a glass of water."

Seeing her granddaughter-in-law put Nadine in such high spirits, she even stood up to take Stella's hand.

Stella placed the fruit on the table and gently guided Nadine back to the sofa, sitting down right beside her.

Jason, showing uncharacteristic tact, opened a bottle of water and handed it to Stella.

"Here you go, Stella."

"Thanks."

Both Jason and Stella made a conscious effort to keep Nadine entertained, so the conversation flowed effortlessly between the three of them. There was no awkward silence, and Nadine was in such a great mood that she even ate a little more than usual at dinner.

After dinner, Stella accompanied Nadine for a leisurely stroll through the gardens to help digest their meal.

It wasn't until nearly seven o'clock that Jason finally caught Stella alone.

"Stella, got a minute to chat?"
