Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 136

Wade chimed in as well. "Boss, let me be the decoy. You and Marsh need to get out of here. You're too important; we can't let anything happen to you."

Julius shot that down immediately. "No. You're not a match for them. If we don't do this my way, none of us are making it out of these woods alive tonight. Follow my orders. Trust me, I have an exit strategy."

Without waiting for a response, Julius bolted through the trees in the opposite direction, deliberately making enough noise to draw the enemy's attention.

Marsh and Wade watched in agonizing frustration. But seeing their leader charge off—and the entire squad of pursuers pivoting to follow his trail—they had no choice but to obey Julius's orders and fall back.

Julius led his pursuers on a grueling chase before finally coming to a halt near the edge of a steep drop-off.

Seven or eight men emerged from the treeline, closing in on him.

One of them sneered. "Thought you were pretty fast, huh? Let's see you run now! Hahaha!"

Another stepped forward, brandishing his weapon. "You and your crew took out a bunch of our guys. We're going to tear you apart, or else we won't have a good excuse when we report back."

Julius was wearing a half-mask that glinted coldly in the moonlight. When he spoke, his voice was even icier than the reflection on the metal. "Did any of you stop to think why I lured you to this exact spot?"

The first man spat impatiently. "Screw you! You're dead meat and you're still running your mouth? Get him, boys! I refuse to believe this guy can suddenly sprout wings and fly!"

With that, he lunged toward Julius.

Eager to finish the job and report back, the rest of the thugs tightened their grip on their blades and batons, converging on Julius as if ready to hack him into pieces the very next second.

Julius let out a chilling laugh. "Actually, flying is exactly what I do. Try and keep up!"

Without another word, he turned and threw himself off the edge of the cliff.

The men froze in their tracks, staring in stunned disbelief at the empty space where Julius had just been.

"Did he... did he seriously just jump?"
