Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 146

Una followed Rhoda's gaze and sure enough, she saw several men laughing and talking with Stella.

"Come on, let's go join them."

"Do you think they'll mind if we crash their group?"

"Of course not. See that guy in the pink suit? That's my brother. He dotes on me. I'll introduce you to him."

Rhoda's face instantly lit up. "That's your brother? He's so handsome!"

Una puffed her chest out with pride. "Yep, that's him. And the guy next to him in the black suit? We saw him at Shirley & Co. Jewelers last time.

His family owns the Shipley Group. The other guys are my brother's friends too. I'm not super close to them, but we've met and they know who I am."

Rhoda sighed enviously. "Una, I'm so jealous. You have such a great brother. It's completely different at my house. My siblings act like I don't even exist."

Her half-brother and half-sister despised her for being an illegitimate child, usually ignoring her completely.

However, since her brother had a girlfriend and her sister had a boyfriend, neither wanted to attend tonight's mixer, so her father had forced her to come instead.

Una grabbed Rhoda's hand and pulled her toward Stella's group.

As soon as they arrived, Una called out, "Vernon!"

Vernon glanced up, saw his sister, and asked, "Do you want some barbecue, Una?"

"Vernon, let me introduce you. This is my friend, Rhoda Ford."

"Nice to meet you, Ms. Ford. Come hang out with us." Vernon was a notorious playboy, and he never turned down a pretty face.

Rhoda batted her eyelashes and said sweetly, "It's nice to meet you, Vernon. I hope we aren't interrupting."

"Not at all. I just finished grilling these beef skewers. Here, have some."

"Got it! Just wait, I'll grill up a whole batch for you girls."

After responding to his sister, Vernon turned to the rest of the guys. "See? You guys keep trashing my cooking, but finally, someone appreciates my culinary talents! I'm going to make extra just for them."

The others stayed completely silent. Anyone who willingly ate Vernon's cooking was asking for torture!

Stella, who had been looking rather bored a moment ago, suddenly perked up. She enthusiastically started passing raw ingredients to Vernon.

"Here, Vernon. Have some fatty beef, some chicken legs, some corn... here, have all of it!"

"Oh, and make sure you put extra barbecue sauce and chili powder on them so the flavor really seeps in. A lot of it just falls into the charcoal anyway, and barbecue is no good if it doesn't have enough flavor."

"Exactly, load it up!"

Let's see if this doesn't salt you to death! Or burn your mouth off!!
