After Stella finished sharing her story, her throat felt a bit dry. She walked over to the table, poured herself a glass of water, and gulped it down eagerly.
Julius wanted to kindly remind her that it was his glass, but seeing that she had already chugged all the water, he held his tongue.
She set the glass down. "Mr. Blackwood, we've been talking for a while, and I still don't know your name."
"Julius Blackwood."
Stella just offered an "Oh" in response, not showing much of a reaction. She busied herself with the box she had brought from the Hawthorne residence.
She tried entering her mother's birthday. Nothing.
She tried entering her own birthday. Still nothing.
She even tried her grandfather's birthday, but it still wouldn't open.
What on earth was the combination?!
Frederick said her mother had set it. Could he have been lying to her?
"Julius, do you know how to open this kind of combination lock?"
While listening to her story earlier, Julius had figured out that the box contained her mother's belongings.
"If you don't mind, I can give it a try, but I can't guarantee I'll get it open. Don't get your hopes up too high."
"Usually, people who say that are actually pretty confident they can open it. Here, I don't mind. Open it for me, I can't do it myself anyway."
Julius took the box. After studying it for a moment, he spun the numbers a few times, and with a sharp click, the lock sprang open.
Stella happily snatched the box back. "I told you that you were pretty confident you could open it. Thanks."
