"Don't touch him just yet. I still don't have a solid lead on my mother's ashes, so he's still useful. Besides, if you put them out on the streets, knowing him and Miranda, they'd probably storm Blackwood Group and make a scene."
"Making a scene won't do them any good. He tried that last time, and absolutely no one at the company believed a word he said. They just thought he was a lunatic."
"If he can't get to you, he'll just go around ruining your reputation. Doesn't that bother you?"
"Nothing involving you is ever a bother. Plus, he can't make a dent in anything I do. Just give the word, and I can bankrupt him in a heartbeat."
Stella was momentarily speechless. It felt surprisingly nice to have someone fiercely protecting her!
The last time Frederick and his family had tried everything to trick her into coming home, Julius had defended her, scooping her up in his arms as if she were a fragile little flower.
He had also bought back her mother's necklace at the auction for her.
When she said she didn't want Frederick getting his hands on the wedding fund, he had sent someone to demand every last penny back and gave it all straight to her.
He had even deliberately threatened Chloe to get her mother's ashes back.
Even though the ashes turned out to be fake, she couldn't blame him for that. Not even Frederick knew they had been swapped, so how could Julius possibly have known?
It seemed like he had kept every single promise he had made to her.
If he ever found out that she wasn't actually delicate at all—and was, in fact, quite dangerous—she wondered what he would think.
"Let's leave the Hawthorne family alone for now. We can deal with them later."
Julius raised his glass and clinked it against hers. "Whatever you say."
The two of them continued to eat, drink, and chat. It was a genuinely pleasant evening.
