Jason shrugged casually. "Nothing much. Didn't you announce a one-million-dollar cash prize for the winner? My racer won. Are you trying to back out of your promise now?"

If he didn't wring that million dollars out of Weber and hand it to Stella, she would murder him when he got home. She might even demand double or triple the amount in compensation.

After all, having grown up in the countryside, Stella seemed to have a deep appreciation for cash.

Weber scoffed dismissively, "It's just a million dollars. Since when is the great Jason Blackwood strapped for cash?"

"But the winner already left! Who am I supposed to give the money to?"

"You can give it to me. I'll pass it along. I hired him, after all."

Weber shook his head. "I only hand prize money directly to the winning competitor. You can't accept it on his behalf. I'm not giving you a dime."

He had lost face, lost the land, and now he was expected to hand over a million dollars? He couldn't swallow that pill.

Jason nodded slowly. "Is that so? Alright, keep it. I always knew you were this kind of guy.

"I'll just pay the racer out of my own pocket. But as for our little bet today, I'm going to make sure everyone hears about it.

"I'll make sure the press knows exactly how you change the rules on a whim and refuse to honor your bets. I'll spread it far and wide. And when I do, it won't just be your reputation on the line—it'll be the entire Harper family's.

"Tell me, once word gets out that the Harpers don't keep their promises, how many people will still want to do business with you?"

Weber's demeanor instantly shifted. "It's just a million dollars. Take it."

He pulled out his phone and transferred the million directly to Jason's account.
