Julius had always anticipated that people would start asking questions about his miraculous recovery. If Steward hadn't asked today, someone else would have eventually.
Since Stella forbade him from telling the truth, his only option was to spin absolute lies.
To this day, he still hadn't figured out how Stella had acquired such elite medical skills. He honestly didn't even know if she actually possessed a medical license.
Furthermore, why was he completely blocked from digging any deeper into her background?
Who was out there wiping her digital footprint so thoroughly?
It didn't matter. He trusted that she would reveal everything to him when the time was right.
Steward stared at him skeptically. "Are you serious?"
"Dead serious," Julius replied without missing a beat. "Why would I lie to you? I genuinely have no idea who the guy was."
Steward still wasn't buying it. "Someone literally pieces your shattered legs back together, and you didn't even think to grab their phone number?"
Knowing Julius's calculating and meticulous nature, that was incredibly out of character!
"The person didn't even have a medical license. Why would I keep their number on file? Besides, they vanished the second the surgery was over. I couldn't track them down if I tried."
Julius spun the web of lies with a straight face, not feeling an ounce of guilt.
"Fine. That's a damn shame. I'm heading out." Steward left the CEO's office looking visibly deflated.
Watching him leave, Julius felt a slight pang of sympathy. It wasn't that he was being malicious; he simply couldn't betray Stella's trust.
Sorry, Steward.
After leaving the Blackwood Group, Steward drove straight to the Shipley Estate to check on his grandfather.
Just as he pulled up to the main gate, he caught sight of a girl dressed like a total hillbilly hopping into a sleek hypercar. She tore down the road with the explosive acceleration of a professional street racer.
Did that hick just come out of his house?
Who was she?
