Weber practically shrieked, "Half a billion dollars? Are you insane?"
Was it even worth that much?
And if he had to pay double to buy it for her, that meant dropping a billion.
If his grandfather found out he blew a billion dollars on a coffee set to impress a woman he barely knew, the old man would literally kill him.
Besides, he didn't even have that kind of liquid cash.
Damn it, he could sleep with half the models in the city for a billion.
"Yep, I paid half a billion for it."
Coming back to his senses, Weber eyed her suspiciously. "You're scamming me. Where would a little thing like you get half a billion?"
"Why would I scam you? And why wouldn't I have half a billion? My boyfriend gave it to me."
Weber paused. Her boyfriend was the CEO of Blackwood Group. Let alone half a billion, the man probably had a spare billion lying around.
The woman hanging off Weber's arm turned red with envy. What kind of god-tier boyfriend hands over half a billion dollars? If some billionaire gave her even a fraction of that, she would gladly wait on him hand and foot!
"Well, since Ms. Hawthorne spent a fortune on it, I won't fight you for it. The set is yours. Hopefully, we'll run into each other again."
With that, Weber threw his arm around his date and hurried out of Myriad Treasures Gallery.
What a gullible idiot with too much money. At this rate, Julius's fortune was going to be completely drained by this ditzy woman.
She clearly had a flawless face but an empty head. A total trophy wife. Whatever, he was over it. Let her bleed Julius dry.
Watching him retreat, Stella finally turned back. "Alston, the annoying fly is gone. Hurry up and wrap it, or someone who actually knows its worth might walk in and get jealous."
She knew for a fact Weber didn't actually care about the set. He was just trying to flaunt his wealth and throw his weight around in front of her.
Plus, the sleazy, predatory gleam in his eyes was impossible to hide.
Like hell she would ever give him what he wanted.
Alston gave her a big thumbs up. "You're brilliant, Little Star. I'll get this packed up for you right away."
Trying to tail her?
In their dreams!
She slammed her foot on the gas, and the supercar launched forward like a bullet.
The pursuing car wasn't slow either, desperately trying to keep up.
But Stella's car had superior performance and raw horsepower. At first, the tail managed to hang on, but soon they started falling behind.
She wove effortlessly through traffic on an elevated overpass, taking a few sharp, dizzying turns that completely disoriented her pursuer.
By the time she merged off the highway, she checked the mirror again. The tail was gone.
Stella let out a soft scoff.
That was it? And they thought they could follow her?
But as her adrenaline leveled out, a wave of regret washed over her. She had been too eager to lose them. She should have figured out exactly who sent them first.
