He had been reprimanded before, but nothing had ever been this severe.
Exhausted from his tirade, Augustus waved his hand dismissively, ordering everyone to leave.
This family would completely disintegrate without him!
How could he ever retire in peace?
...
Meanwhile, at the Jeter residence.
"Dad, please! Can you invite Julius over for dinner tomorrow night? I've been back for a month and I haven't even had one meal with him!" Yvonne Jeter pleaded.
Ever since her disastrous visit to the Blackwood Manor, she hadn't found a single opening to get close to Julius.
She couldn't get past security at Blackwood Group, and she had no idea where his new private residence was. How was she supposed to seduce him if she couldn't even look at him?
And then there was that miserable old hag. She had gone to the manor two days ago, hoping to trick Nadine into slipping his address, but she hadn't even been allowed past the front gates.
The butler claiming the old woman wasn't home was an obvious lie. She had been absolutely furious.
So today, she resorted to begging her father to formally invite him over. It was the only way she'd get a shot.
Byron Jeter gave his daughter a long look. "Didn't you tell me he's married?"
"Daddy, please!" Yvonne whined. "Just because he's married doesn't mean he can't have dinner with us. Our families go way back."
Her mother, Catherine, chimed in. "She has a point, Byron. You really should invite him. Honestly, we haven't exactly looked great in all this.
"Ever since word got out that his legs might never heal, we completely stopped visiting the Blackwoods. Inviting him over now is a good excuse to mend fences and keep the connection strong."
Yvonne pressed her advantage. "Exactly! I just want to have dinner with him. If you're the one who invites him, he'll definitely come out of respect for you. Don't you want to stay on good terms with the Blackwoods?
"When I went over the other day, Grandma Nadine was incredibly cold to me. Our relationship with them is practically freezing over."
