Julius supported his grandmother with one hand and held his wife's hand with the other as they walked toward the main table, not forgetting to wink at Stella.
Stella shot him a look that said, "You better."
She had no idea they were both attending Wilfred Vaughn's gathering today, nor did she know the man was Julius's grandfather. If she had known, she would have done her homework.
And what was the deal with his aunt, Yvette?
She looked so elegant and beautiful, yet her behavior was even more brazen than Stella's.
Then there was the rest of the Vaughn family. Aside from the old man, Wilfred, she didn't know a single one of them!
And that younger uncle they had just met, Timothy—why did his face look so familiar? It felt like she had seen him somewhere before.
He also looked a lot like Yvette.
After escorting his grandmother back to the main table, Julius took Stella to meet the rest of the Vaughn family. There were quite a few of them, and she couldn't remember everyone.
However, his older uncle, Vincent, left the deepest impression on her.
Vincent was around fifty, tall with sharp, handsome features. He radiated an aura of absolute righteousness and looked incredibly stern.
His wife, Suzanne, was also a beauty. She had a kind, angelic face and a pleasantly plump, radiant figure that made her look perfectly matched standing next to Vincent.
The Vaughns were all easy to talk to and generally very friendly toward her.
However, there was one person in the corner who seemed to have a problem with her, glaring at her with barely concealed hostility.
At first, she thought she was just imagining things, but she caught the woman staring several times.
Whenever Stella looked back, the woman would pretend nothing was wrong and look away.
She furrowed her perfectly shaped brows. She was certain she didn't know the woman, so why the dirty looks?
Julius took Stella around to meet many of the Vaughns, and she received quite a few gifts.
She offered a polite smile. "Sorry, I don't drink."
Her mind immediately flashed through the endless melodramatic tropes from those web shorts. The way the woman had been looking at her was clearly malicious. Could she be one of Julius's secret admirers?
She had brought over a glass of wine. If this wasn't a drink-throwing scene, had she spiked it?
Was the next step to 'help her rest' in a guest room, where some random guy would be waiting to ruin her reputation?
That was exactly how the web shorts played out.
But wasn't she a Vaughn relative? Surely she wouldn't go that far?
Hopefully, she was just overthinking it.
The woman didn't seem to mind the rejection. She smiled and said, "I really didn't expect Julius to actually get married."
