Yvette stepped forward and gave Zoe a hard shove. "Zoe, didn't you see my nephew bring his wife? He's a married man, and you're still shamelessly throwing yourself at him. Have you no dignity?"
She then turned and pulled someone else from the crowd. "Suzanne, aren't you going to rein in your precious niece? Julius finally got married, and you brought her here today of all days? What were you thinking?"
Stella shot her brazen aunt a look of profound respect.
She officially mentally categorized Yvette as one of the 'good guys.'
Suzanne felt incredibly wronged. She knew exactly what kind of person her niece was, and she certainly hadn't invited her. Zoe had crashed the party on her own.
Today was her father-in-law's birthday banquet. As the eldest daughter-in-law of the Vaughn family, she had been busy entertaining guests. If this scene hadn't erupted, she wouldn't have even known Zoe was in the building.
She marched over and yanked Zoe by the arm. "Zoe, what do you think you're doing? Who told you to come here? Go home right now!"
Honestly, the girl was hopelessly obsessed. Ever since she first laid eyes on Julius at the Vaughns' holiday gathering three years ago, she had been stalking him. She dug up information on his whereabouts and found a way to show up at every single event he attended.
Whether she actually managed to speak to him was another matter entirely.
It was only when Julius had his accident that she finally stopped hounding him.
Now that she had heard his leg was fully healed, her obsession had flared right back up.
She had likely found out about Wilfred's banquet on her own and snuck in just to see Julius.
Sigh. One look at Julius, and Zoe had completely ruined her own life.
Zoe shook off Suzanne's grip. "Aunt Suzanne, I swear I didn't throw the drink at her! It's fine if you don't want to help me, but don't tell me to leave. I'm not going anywhere!"
Her aunt was always telling her to stop chasing Julius, insisting he would never love her and that they were a terrible match.
He belonged to her! How could he marry someone else?!
Suzanne tried to reason with her. "Zoe, if you really don't want to leave, then find a seat and eat. Have dinner quietly, and then go home. Okay?"
Since the girl was already here, kicking her out before she had even eaten seemed a bit harsh.
Just then, a man stepped up and whispered into Suzanne's ear. "Ma'am, Mr. Vaughn has instructed that today is the master's birthday, and no one is to ruin the celebration. He expects you to keep your niece in check."
The messenger was the Vaughns' head butler.
Suzanne knew her husband, Vincent, was deeply displeased and expected her to handle this immediately.
This was absolutely not the place for Zoe's dramatics. The Vaughn family couldn't afford this kind of public humiliation.
