Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 315

Northern suburbs derelict plant.

A shadowy figure crept stealthily into the facility.

Deep inside the abandoned plant was a hidden inner room filled with intricate extraction equipment.

The figure approached a filter, pulled out a cloth, and carefully began wiping it down.

Once he was done, he pocketed the cloth and turned to slip away into the night—only to feel the cold barrel of a gun press against his head.

"You can stop wiping, Wade. There aren't any fingerprints on it. I had Marsh say that in front of everyone today. It was a trap meant specifically for you."

Wade slowly stood up. "Julius, you bastard. You set me up!"

"You only fell for it because you're guilty. Wade, why are you colluding with Gideon on these sick murders?"

"Why? For money and power, obviously! Once I have enough of both, I'll finally be able to crush you under my heel."

Julius furrowed his brow. "I always treated you like a brother. Why would you think like this?"

Wade let out a bitter laugh. "Who wants to be your brother? Do you have any idea how much I despise you?"

"You despise me? Have I ever done anything to wrong you?" Julius genuinely believed he was loyal to his comrades and would never stab someone in the back.

Besides, everyone in The Nightfall was handpicked by high command. Everyone had their own unique strengths.

"Hmph! You didn't do anything specific, but you outshine me at every turn. Why do you get to be the captain? Why does making money come so easily to you? Why does everyone worship the ground you walk on?"

He had executed every move flawlessly, leaving zero traces. Otherwise, he wouldn't have fallen for tonight's trap so easily.

"I started suspecting you right after Gideon died," Julius replied. "Did you really think your actions were foolproof?"

Wade stared at him in disbelief. "Impossible. Gideon is dead. How did you connect it to me?"

"Was it really that hard? You're the best in the team at tracking and counter-surveillance. That's why I sent you to stake out his place.

You were worried he'd slip up, so you planted a bug on him. Right when he was about to reveal who was pulling his strings,

you silenced him to protect yourself. Others might not know, but I do. Not only are you a master tracker,

but you're also a top-tier sniper. High command recruited you specifically for those skills, and yet you betrayed us."
