Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 324

"I like the sound of that. A silver fox," she purred.

He lost himself in her radiant smile, and hearing her say "I like it" sent his mood soaring. He pulled her close and captured her lips in a deep kiss.

When they finally broke apart, breathless, he remembered his other question. "Stella, there's one more thing I need to ask you."

"Alright, ask away," she murmured, still slightly dazed from the kiss, ready to agree to whatever he said.

"Two years ago, on the night of April 23rd, at the Rushdown... did you save a man wearing a wolf mask?"

Stella tilted her head, searching her memory. "I think so. I was looking for some herbs and happened to pass by.

I saw a guy in a mask passed out on the ground, so I gave him a couple of acupuncture needles. Once he woke up and I saw he had a phone to call for help, I took off."

Julius's face lit up with absolute joy. "That man in the mask was me! You saved my life. I finally found you. I asked you about it before, and you denied it. Do you have any idea how long I've been looking for you?"

"You were wearing a mask, so I never saw your face. And last time you asked, you just said 'two years ago' without giving me an exact date. How was I supposed to know it was you?"

Stella finally pieced it together. The day after he had gotten drunk, he really had asked her about it. When she had told him she hadn't saved him, he had looked so crushed.

"Stella, this is incredible. I finally found the woman who saved my life." Julius pulled her into another fierce embrace.

"Well, Julius, if we're counting, that means I've saved you twice now. Once at the Rushdown, and once by fixing your leg. So, how exactly are you planning to repay your savior?"

Julius lowered his head and sucked gently on her neck, leaving a blooming red mark. He admired his handiwork with satisfaction. "How about I give myself to you body and soul to repay the debt?"

She had just wanted to see if he was willing to give it up. She had plenty of her own wealth, anyway.

Since they weren't getting a divorce, what was his was hers.

"Stella, I'm completely serious. I love you, and I am willing to give you everything." Giving her everything he had was something he would never regret.

"Alright, alright. We're married. Whatever you earn is considered shared marital assets anyway, so let's not go through all that paperwork. I believe how much you love me."

Julius held her close, desperately wanting to ask, "Do you love me back?"

But he couldn't find the courage. He was too terrified of hearing an answer he didn't want.
