Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 325

The day after Wade's arrest, the Jeter family showed up at the estate, eager to do some damage control.

Yvonne hadn't been able to find an opening to get close to Julius, and the moment Byron heard that Nadine had been taken hostage, he practically dragged his wife and daughter over the very next day to check on her.

They were, after all, old family friends, and decades of ties couldn't be severed overnight. Nadine instructed the staff to let them in.

"Nadine," Byron began the moment he walked in. "It's only been two days, and you've had an intruder break in!

When I heard you were held hostage last night, I was so worried I couldn't sleep a wink. I rushed over here first thing today. Are you alright?"

Nadine chuckled pleasantly. "I'm perfectly fine. I had my granddaughter-in-law to protect me, so I wasn't hurt at all."

Nadine was in exceptionally high spirits today. Julius, Jason, and Stella were all home keeping her company.

Byron felt a wave of internal disdain. He had seen this so-called granddaughter-in-law. Aside from having a pretty face, she looked weak and utterly useless.

He had heard from Yvonne—Stella was just some uneducated country bumpkin from the middle of nowhere, completely lacking in background or refinement.

The only way she could have possibly married Julius was by using that face to seduce him.

However, he hid his true thoughts perfectly, plastering on a warm smile. "This must be Julius's new bride."

"Hello, Mr. Jeter. I'm Julius's wife, Stella."

It was their first meeting, and she knew how to be polite.

"Haha, wonderful. Julius is a lucky man to have married such a gorgeous woman."

Mrs. Jeter chimed in with a smile. "Indeed. Julius, when did you get married? Our families go way back.

Why didn't you let us know about such a massive life event? We would have loved to share in the joy."

The wife was furious!

"Yvonne, stop spouting nonsense! When did my brother ever say he'd marry you? Whenever we played house as kids, it was always you insisting on being the bride. My brother never agreed to any of it."

Julius's loyal mouthpiece had instantly leaped to his defense.

"I am not spouting nonsense!" Yvonne cried defensively. "Julius, say something! You never rejected me back then, did you?"

Another sharp pinch attacked Julius's lower back.

He knew that if he didn't say something right now, he was probably going to be sleeping on the couch tonight.

"Yvonne, Jason made it perfectly clear. Do you not understand English? What do you mean I never rejected you?
