Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 337

The two of them walked over to the captain.

Julius took the initiative. "Is something wrong? Do you need any help?"

The captain looked at the man and woman who had suddenly appeared in front of him. The man possessed an undeniably commanding presence, and the woman was stunningly beautiful.

He instantly recognized Stella as the girl from the stands yesterday—the one who had yelled, 'The referee is rigging the match!' He was shocked to see she actually had the clearance to be here.

Her shout had been caught on camera and broadcast on international news. He had recognized her from the photos.

Even though all pictures of her had mysteriously vanished from the internet shortly after, he still remembered her face.

Thrilled, he said, "Miss, it's you!" He was incredibly grateful for what she had done yesterday, standing up for Veridia Country.

Stella asked, "You look really panicked, so we came over to check. Did something happen? Is there anything we can do?"

The captain sighed heavily. "We've run into a massive problem. Since you're both here, I'm sure you know what today is all about.

I won't lie to you. The fighter representing Veridia came here with me, but he said his stomach was acting up and went to the restroom.

He hasn't come back, and he's not answering his phone. The matches are about to start, and I'm losing my mind here."

Stella tapped her index fingers together thoughtfully. "Is it possible someone sabotaged him?"

"I've considered that. If he doesn't make it to the ring in time, it counts as an automatic forfeit. My superiors told me to find a replacement, but where am I supposed to find someone on such short notice?"

This sort of underhanded tactic was common, especially when rival nations wanted to eliminate strong competition to secure the hosting rights.

The captain stared at her in shock. "Are... are you telling the truth?"

How could a young woman like her possibly pull that off?

It was impossible. She had to be bluffing!

"Of course it's true. And it's not like you have any better options right now, do you? Since you have no one else to represent Veridia, are you just going to forfeit?"

Stella knew she didn't look the part of a heavyweight fighter, but every word she said was a fact.

"This..." The captain was completely torn. He didn't entirely believe the girl, but he couldn't stomach the thought of Veridia forfeiting.

Julius stepped in to vouch for her. "She's telling the truth. And she took him down in a single move. That man was in the Capital a while back and fought in the underground ring at the Recess Club. You can trust her."
