Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 370

Didn't they know how to use bug spray?

The doctor shook his head. It took all kinds to make a world, he supposed.

Byron, on the other hand, was utterly bewildered by the diagnosis. Were the mosquitoes at the Blackwood Manor really that vicious?

Last night's gala was packed with the city's wealthiest heirs and socialites. If the mosquitoes were that bad, wouldn't everyone have been complaining?

A thought occurred to him, and he dialed Franklin Ford, the head of the Ford family and an old acquaintance.

When they spoke the day before, Franklin had mentioned that his daughter was also attending the Blackwoods' event.

The call connected.

"Franklin, I need to ask you something."

"Byron, what's up? I'm busy right now, make it quick," Franklin's voice came through the speaker.

"Alright, I'll be brief. You mentioned your daughter went to the Blackwood Gala last night. Did anything happen to her when she got back?"

He just needed to know if this was a uniquely Yvonne problem, or if others were suffering too.

If everyone else was fine, then Yvonne was definitely hiding something from him about what really happened at that party.

Franklin let out a heavy sigh. "Ugh, don't even get me started. She came home last night looking like an absolute wreck—covered in swollen red welts and running a high fever. She's in the hospital right now. The doctor said if we brought her in any later, it could have been critical."

Byron gasped, quickly asking, "Which hospital are you at?"

"City Center Hospital."

"I'm here too! Let's meet up. What's the room number? I'll come to you." Byron suddenly felt like he had found a golden ticket to fix his relationship with the Blackwoods.

She looked completely unrecognizable, like a swollen monster!

It was horrifying to look at!

What Byron didn't know was that Stella had completely run out of patience with Rhoda's constant provocations, so she had been a bit more "generous" with the bug attractant.

As a result, Rhoda looked significantly worse than Yvonne.

Byron tested the waters. "Franklin, do you think we should demand an explanation from the Blackwoods for this?"

If the Blackwoods were at fault, he could use this as leverage to negotiate the restoration of their business ties with Julius. It would solve everything.

A brilliant schemer, he didn't want to risk offending Julius on his own, which was exactly why he wanted to drag Franklin down with him.
