Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 404

Edmund smiled brightly. "Not bad at all. Mr. Blackwood is very generous, and we had a great discussion. Gentlemen, I've got pressing matters to attend to, so I'll leave you to it."

It was painfully obvious that these two were here for the exact same reason he had been.

With an opportunity this massive, anyone with enough leverage wanted a piece of the pie.

He didn't care about their odds. He had virtually locked in his deal, so he needed to head back and get his team prepping the paperwork for the official signing.

After watching Edmund leave, Sean turned back toward the elevators but found his path blocked by Byron and Marcus.

Everyone in the city's corporate elite knew Sean was Julius's right-hand man.

"Sean, a moment, please."

"Well, if it isn't Mr. Jeter and Mr. Lowell. What brings you both to Blackwood Group today?"

He had spotted them ages ago; playing dumb was just part of the game.

Marcus spoke smoothly. "Sean, we've been trying to get a meeting with Mr. Blackwood, but we keep getting turned away. We just wanted to ask... have we inadvertently offended him?"

Sean cleared his throat and let the silence stretch before drawling, "Weren't you aware? My boss has a strict policy against partnering with people who lack situational awareness."

Marcus glanced at Byron, utterly bewildered, before turning back to Sean. "I'm sorry... could you clarify what you mean?"

When had he ever lacked awareness? He always played the game perfectly—attending the right events, showing proper respect, sending the right gifts. He never missed a step!

Taking pity on them, Sean offered a hint. "You might want to ask your lovely daughters about that. The boss specifically wanted me to relay a question: just because his wife is young, does that give your daughters the right to bully her? I assume Mr. Lowell might be in the dark, but Mr. Jeter, you surely know what I'm referring to."

With that, Sean spun on his heel and strode away.

Byron groaned inwardly. It was just as he feared. Julius was completely severing their longstanding ties.

Word on the street was that Franklin Ford's illegitimate daughter had targeted Mrs. Blackwood, and look what happened to her—disowned and kicked to the curb.

Franklin Ford had even released a public statement severing all parental ties, formally erasing her from their family.

It was a massive scandal just last week, and the headlines were still circulating.

Anyone with half a brain could see Julius was aggressively backing his wife!

If Una really had crossed her, he needed to grovel for forgiveness immediately. If Blackwood Group blacklisted the Lowells, the financial ruin would be catastrophic.

Blackwood Group was an absolute juggernaut, holding stakes in nearly every major industry. Almost everyone relied on them in some capacity. Crossing them was corporate suicide.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, Marcus sped home in a panic.

From the back seat of his car, he dialed Una's number, barking an order for her to stay put and wait for him.
