Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 408

Jason loved to mock her terrible taste in men, which always set her off, leading to explosive arguments that inevitably dragged up all their old high school baggage.

But through all the bickering, they ended up talking constantly.

And at the Blackwood Manor on the night of the gala, he had actually kissed her.

He hadn't explained why he did it, but she realized... she hadn't hated it.

So, did she like him?

Maybe she actually did. Just a little.

Seeing Sabrina completely lost in thought, Stella quietly scrolled through her phone, giving her space to process.

After a long time, Sabrina finally spoke. "Stella, I don't even know how I feel about him."

"Do you hate him?"

Sabrina shook her head without hesitation. "No. We've known each other forever. I could never actually hate him."

"Alright, so where does Jason stand in all of this?" Stella pressed.

"He said Nadine's health is fragile, so we have to stall. Just keep dragging the lie out until we absolutely can't anymore."

She paused, chewing her lip. "But I hate doing it. Every time I see her, the guilt eats me alive."

That bastard had trapped her in the ultimate dilemma. She wished she had just walked away that night.

Nadine treated her like her own flesh and blood. Lying to her felt like a betrayal.

In truth, ever since Nadine had started taking the herbal supplements Stella prepared, she had gotten significantly stronger.

But Stella had passed them off through Julius. If she handed them over directly, Nadine might doubt their safety, as no one besides Julius knew about her holistic medical skills.

Telling Sabrina to keep lying was just a strategic delay tactic. If they came clean now, the romance would crash and burn instantly.

But if they played this little game long enough... who knows? Maybe it would turn into the real deal.

Convinced, Sabrina nodded. "Fine, we'll keep up the act. But if this blows up in our faces, you have to help me calm her down. I really love her, and breaking her heart would kill me."

"I've got your back," Stella promised.

Changing the subject, Sabrina leaned in with a curious gleam in her eye. "So, what's the deal with you and Julius? There's an eight-year age gap between you two. How did you end up married? I tried asking Jason, but his lips were sealed."
