Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 407

Facing the old woman's desperate, hopeful eyes made Sabrina feel like an absolute monster for lying.

She never should have agreed to Jason's insane request at the gala. Now she was trapped.

Instead of offering an immediate solution, Stella flipped the question. "Sabrina, how do you actually feel about Jason?"

After the gala, she had grilled Julius about their history.

He had confirmed they were high school classmates and shared a few anecdotes from their teenage years.

Julius had given the brief version, but Nadine had later filled in the gaps. It sounded exactly like a classic enemies-to-lovers situation.

Sabrina froze for a second before scoffing. "What could I possibly feel for him?"

But even as she said it, her mind traitorously flashed back to the moment Jason had kissed her that night.

"Nothing at all? You need to be honest with yourself," Stella pushed, clearly not buying it.

This time, Sabrina stayed silent, seriously pondering Stella's words.

How did she actually feel about Jason?

Back in high school, Jason was an absolute nightmare. He was always skipping class, sneaking off to smoke, or passing out on his desk when he actually bothered to show up.

The teachers had been at their wits' end. Since she was the class president, they forced her to sit next to him, hoping she would be a good influence.

It was a more innocent time, and she genuinely wanted to help him get his act together.

So, to force him onto the right path, she came up with several creative ways to "assist" him.

When he refused to eat proper lunches, she started hiding plastic bugs in his food. After a week of total disgust, he finally caved and promised to eat on time.

Before she left, she and Nadine had staged an epic intervention, convincing Jason that the stress of his bad behavior had nearly given his grandmother a fatal heart attack.

The shock completely cured his rebellion, transforming him into an aggressively focused student.

He ended up testing into the most prestigious university in the city.

His old teachers still used him as an inspiring success story for unmotivated kids.

He had been a high school legend long after they had both moved on.

So... did she really feel nothing for him?

No. They had sat side-by-side for two whole years. Even after graduating and moving across the world, her strongest memories always circled back to him.

And recently, because of Logan Hale's stunt, their paths had crossed again.
