Thank goodness he had been smart enough to hit record on his phone, otherwise he never would have remembered the massive list of dishes Mrs. Blackwood just rattled off.
Julius's wife had a serious appetite. Was she a black hole in a past life?
And how on earth did she have all those menu items memorized?
Jason grinned cheekily. "My sister-in-law knows exactly what's good. Can I tag along and score a free meal tonight? You guys definitely can't finish all that food by yourselves. Wasting it would be a tragedy!"
The dishes Stella had ordered were the absolute best—and the most expensive. Missing out on this feast would be a crime.
Even though Jason oversaw the Astoria Restaurant and ate there regularly, he had never ordered a spread this massive just for himself.
Vernon agreed immediately. "Yeah, come along! What's the big deal? It's just one extra mouth to feed. Plus, we're hosting your brother and sister-in-law. You're practically family. Join us."
His mission for the day was accomplished, meaning he could finally go home and face his dad.
If it hadn't been for Jason's help, getting a meeting with Julius would have been nearly impossible given his brutal schedule recently.
"Awesome. See you tonight. Catch you later, bro."
Jason practically sprinted out the door, terrified that if he stayed a second longer, Julius would chew him out for sneaking Vernon up to his office.
"Julius, I should probably get going too. I need to call the restaurant and pre-order the menu so your wife gets exactly what she wants."
This place was a danger zone. If Jason was making a run for it, Vernon figured he'd better bounce too.
After hanging up, Stella headed back into the hospital room to help Fidelia pack up. Timothy was already handling the discharge paperwork, and they'd be ready to head out soon.
At six o'clock sharp, Julius arrived home.
They quickly freshened up and headed out the door.
The Lowell family had booked the dinner for six-thirty, making their timing absolutely perfect.
"Really? That's amazing! Can we be friends from now on?"
Una's eyes sparkled. Having a genuinely badass friend sounded like the greatest thing in the world.
"Sure... I guess." Could she really say no? Una didn't exactly seem like the sharpest tool in the shed, and Stella wasn't particularly eager to hang out with idiots.
But with both their families sitting right there, shooting down a girl who was sincerely trying to apologize felt a bit too harsh. She didn't want to humiliate her.
They had specifically hosted this entire dinner to make amends. If Stella rejected her now, it would completely contradict her saying she had forgiven her.
"Let me get your contact info so we can keep in touch!" Overjoyed, Una pulled out her phone to add her on socials.
Reluctantly, Stella accepted the request.
It was true what they said—a free meal makes it hard to hold a grudge!
