Stella wandered the compound a bit longer, observing the brainwashing sessions and watching exactly how they executed their brutal pig-butchering scams.
Just as she was heading to Tiger's office to keep up appearances, she ran into Doris in a secluded alleyway.
She tried to take a detour to avoid her.
But Doris stepped into her path, clearly looking for a fight. Stella had no choice but to entertain her.
"Well, if it isn't Ms. Todd. I heard you're pregnant. You really hit the jackpot, didn't you?"
Doris had been Tiger's housekeeper and had slept with him on the side, yet she had never managed to conceive. The fact that this random girl had swooped in and gotten knocked up infuriated her.
She had always dreamed of officially becoming his woman, and now, this newcomer had stolen her spot.
Tiger even let the girl roam the compound freely. Everyone knew she was the boss's favorite, so they all treated her with deference.
According to Celine, Tiger spoiled her rotten, gave her unlimited cash, and even allowed her into his private office.
That office was strictly off-limits. Even Doris had never been allowed inside.
All of this should have been hers. Why did this brat get to take it all?
She was going to take back what was rightfully hers.
"Oh, hey, Doris," Stella said, plastering on a perfectly innocent smile. "Did you need something? Make it quick, I'm on my way to see Tiger."
Doris took a deep breath, swallowing her rage. "You were dragged here by Lucian Vance and forced to be with the boss. Don't you want to go home? Don't you miss your family?"
"Are you sure you should be saying things like that? What if someone hears you and tells him?"
Of course she wanted to go home—just not yet.
With her skills, she could slip out of the compound at any given moment, but leaving now would defeat the purpose.
She still didn't know what her grandfather had endured here.
