Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 468

"Why would I set you up? I've worked for him for five years. Sneaking you out is child's play if you just do exactly as I say," Doris said smugly.

Killing the girl outright was too risky. The only viable option was to help her escape and frame it as her running away on her own. That way, Tiger's wrath wouldn't fall on Doris.

Everyone knew Tiger's punishments were a fate worse than death.

"Oh, that's great! But before I leave, there's something I need to know. I hope you can tell me."

If Doris had been around for five years, she definitely knew about Dewey Todd.

"What do you want to know?"

"Three years ago, an old man named Dewey Todd came here. I need to know exactly what happened to him."

Stella asked directly, having already used the exact same cover story with Tiger.

Even if Doris ratted her out, Tiger wouldn't suspect anything out of the ordinary.

"Why are you asking about him? Who is he to you?"

"He's my grandfather's older brother. My grandpa is dying and wanted to see him one last time, so I came looking for him. That's how Vance ended up grabbing me."

Stella flawlessly repeated the lie she had fed Tiger.

"Why didn't you just ask the boss? He knows more about it than anyone," Doris asked, furrowing her brow.

Since she was sleeping with him, wouldn't it be easier to just ask him directly?

"I did. He told me the old man died, and that he made a huge mess of this place, but he wouldn't give me the details. I want to know how he died."

Tiger was incredibly paranoid. Pressing him for more information would have immediately triggered his suspicion.
