Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 471

Nadine hurriedly clarified, "No, Yolanda, you've got it all wrong. Stella is gorgeous, absolutely stunning. She's not ugly at all. You'll love her the moment you meet her."

Her granddaughter-in-law ticked every box for the perfect dream daughter: beautiful, grounded, and deeply respectful.

Yolanda smiled. "Mom, I was just teasing Julius."

Julius's father, Rowan, chimed in. "Julius, it's rare for us to make it back. Hurry up and bring your wife over so your mother and I can meet her."

He had returned to hear his mother recount how their eldest son had nearly lost his life, only to be saved after a desperate warding-off-death marriage brought in a brilliant doctor who cured him.

Now, he could see that his mother's health and spirits were better than ever.

Due to the demanding nature of his and his wife's careers, they rarely had time to return, leaving the household in the care of their eldest and youngest sons.

His eldest, in particular, had shouldered many of the responsibilities that rightfully belonged to him as a father.

Now that they were finally back and had learned of his marriage, they were eager to meet their new daughter-in-law.

"Grandma, Dad, Mom, Stella's grandfather is sick. She said she needs to stay with him for a while and will be back after the holidays."

Julius fought the urge to run a hand in frustration through his hair. He had to say something; otherwise, facing an interrogation from all three of them, he wouldn't be able to keep the secret hidden.

His only option was a partial truth. The more dangerous details had to remain a secret to keep his grandmother from suffering a shock.

Nadine grew anxious again. "Then why didn't you go with her? How could you just let her go alone?

"She's such a delicate, fragile girl, and so beautiful too. What if she gets targeted by bad people out there? How can you be so careless!"

Julius tried to soothe her. "Grandma, it's not that I didn't want to go with her. She explicitly asked me not to. She said she already felt terrible about not being able to spend the holidays with you all. If I left too, it just wouldn't be right."

His wife, delicate and fragile?

She only looked delicate on the outside. In reality, she could easily take out ten guys at once!
