Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 483

During the few days Rowan and Yolanda had been back, Nadine had already filled them in on both families' antics, and their younger son had practically talked their ears off about the Jeters. They knew full well that neither the grandmother nor the grandsons could stand them.

Consequently, the couple wasn’t exactly warm, though they kept things impeccably polite.

Byron put on a show of deep familiarity. "Rowan, you and Yolanda are always so busy. How long are you staying this time?"

In truth, Rowan and Yolanda spent most of their time abroad and weren't particularly close to the Jeters. The families merely ran in the same circles.

"We’ve been swamped these past few years, leaving Julius and Jason to handle everything here. We’re planning to stay a bit longer this time to keep my mother company," Rowan replied smoothly, keeping the boundaries clear.

Frederick, seemingly terrified that the couple might forget who he was, chimed in. "It’s so rare to see you both. We really should stay in closer touch moving forward, given our family ties."

Rowan deflected with practiced grace. "We’re hardly ever around. You should coordinate with Julius. He’s the one who runs things here."

Kicking the ball to his son was the easiest way out. He had zero intention of humoring this so-called in-law.

Given how they had treated his daughter-in-law, Rowan had absolutely no desire to deepen any connection with them.

Yvonne and Chloe had only come for Julius, and his swift exit left them crestfallen.

They sat there in silence, their enthusiasm entirely drained, wishing they could just leave.

The parents, however, didn't care. They had come to rub elbows with the Blackwoods; it didn't matter which ones.

As far as they were concerned, they had successfully made their presence known.

The ever-calculating Miranda even tried to secure a photo with Yolanda for social media, desperate for visual proof of her status as Julius's mother-in-law.
